I know this was posted before (which is how i heard bout it) but i wanted to let everyone know that they can pick up the orange box (AND ITS IN AN ORANGE BOX!) at your circuit city for 37.99 -- which is a great deal considering its 49.99 at best buy.

i can't wait to open and play this game - i must say the orange box that the orange box is in caught my eye as soon as i walked into the store. i think im gonna get a little shut eye before i begin my team fortress 2 domination :p

Great deal indeed! Plus Rep. I am kinda of glad I got the downloaded version from steam tho. because I have a bad habit of losing games in there phisical form. I lost one of my half life 2 disk and totally lost my counter strike source disk. But I can just download them since they are registered on steam to play them. (Of course you dont have to have the d/l version to do this obviously)

All the discs are is a physical form of the Steam download. You still get the rights to re-download them if you lose your discs since they're forcing you to use Steam even if you don't play online now.

Has anyone found these at CC? I went yesterday and they don't have any, and they say they don't even have any available yet.

Yea, I saw the link, but it doesn't even say out of stock in my area. It simply says it isn't available. Really odd, hope I can find it before the price goes back up.

I remember the days of Steam when I bought the retail game I had to go through a horrendous wait of downloading patches and so forth, please tell me there's no updates or downloads for these games.....?

I know, I clearly stated that aswell.

More so of a reason I guess was the no hassles in obtaining a copy. When that had that deal with shadowrun/halo 2 it was a pain to track down a copy.

In this case it was 45$ to preorder via steam, vs 37$ for this deal. It would have costed most of that money in gas to go get it, and the few dollars left in the difference was easily made up with the time and effort.

i guess they recieved their shipment of the game this morning because when i got there they were just unpacking the boxes. i wouldn't follow what the website says - it still says my local CC does not carry it yet and i also signed up for them to notify me when they do through email which never happened. luckily i just went there and grabbed my copy.

in terms of the price goign back up i wouldn't worry about that, quake wars is still going for 37.99 and that came out on 10/02 i believe.

Question for you folks. Is there any way to unlock a key from a past account on Steam? I originally purchased HL2 when it came out, played it, enjoyed it, and it set on a shelf for a year. When I went to re-install it the other day it said that the key was already in use when creating an account. I tried logging into the old account but get a login / pw error. To top it off I have a new ISP and hence a new email so it can't be mailed to me via the automated system.

So here is where I'm at.
    I have the original disks
    I have the original package
I have the original CD key

I do not have the original receipt
I do not have an email account on file w/ steam
The CD key is locked to my old account

So is there any way to unlock the key? I tried to submit a ticket with steam but received an email saying that the request errored out so I'm kind of at a loss on how to proceed from here. Any ideas or do I have 6 new coasters?

Thanks. I swung by yesterday, perhaps I'll check it out tonight or see tomorrow if they have it. I have a CC pretty darn close to my house so it's no biggie.

    Thanks again.

Well I went to CC again today.

So they didn't actually sell the game until 2PM today for whatever reason. Furthermore, they didn't have it on the shelf. I asked one of the employees and he went and got a copy for me. Apparently, they have been selling quite a few of them!

    Can't wait to play! :)

Did you use the ISP's email address to register Steam? Maybe you could contact Steam Support (not a ticket - I'm guessing there's an email in the Steam website where you can actually email them about your trouble)and explain your problem and have the password reset for you? (Since you don't have a receipt, I'm hoping/guessing that your HL2 CD-Key would be proof-of-purchase enough. Let's cross our fingers). I'm sure that if a CD-key is locked to an account, then that account is traceable. It has to be (I mean, they are professionals and it's a business - keeping a file is part of their job). Good luck!

Here's a link to (hopefully) get you started

Thanks Amol, I will give this another shot. I did use an email address to register steam but it's not the same address that was used 2 years ago when I first setup the account so there is really no way to use the automated system.

Has anyone tried to order an orange box from Circuit City online? It finally shows thats its available but then when I went to checkout it says its unavailable  What gives?? I checked Fry's site too and they only show it for the 360. I guess I am going to have to make the hour trip to Best Buy is weekend..

Yeah, I'd just hate to loose a valid HL2 cd key. Keys of games of that quality shouldn't ever be lost :). I really really hope you get your game back. If not, if you do plan to play Team Fortress 2, you will get a copy of HL2 with it and it'll probably help you feel a bit better and take some of the bitterness away. Once again, good luck!

I purchased HL2: Ep 1 through Steam when it came out in what.. 2003? 2004? At $37 for the orangebox, it's still cheaper for me to purchase that even though I already own HL2 Ep 1. Portal, TF2 would be I think $45 if purchased separately, plus Ep. 2.

    37.99 + 8% tax = $41.03.

Though I think your point is that it comes out near the $45 for the individual games, but remember Steam charges tax too.
