I recieved Half Life 2: Orange Box for Christmas. I installed it, and now none of the games will work. I try and load them, then they just freeze my system. I just get a black screen and my hdd goes full bore. It never comes back, and never goes to any of the games. I have a Gateway P-7805u, stock, Vista 64. I did try and do a search, but couldn't find the same problem. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Do any other Steam games work for you?

Just googled your notebook and the specs specified there should run Source based games just fine, so its wierd that you cant launch any.

What OS are you using btw?

But my advice would be to go to Nvidia and download the newest drivers, restart after installing them and try launching the games from Steam again.
If that fails get in contact with Steam support and ask them why it doesent work.

    Good luck. :)

Yes, I have Left 4 Dead & America's Army, and they both work flawlessly. Just not Half Life 2: Orange Box. I have the latest nvidia drivers. Thanks for the help.

That's weird. The only problem I had with mah Gateway was that I had to manually start the installer.
