I just jumped on the weekend deal and finished portal.
I think i'm going to throw up.
-
It's a short game, but still very nice. I think you should get in TF2 now!
-
I also jumped on this deal and played portal and hf2.
I really dont get feeling dizzy while playing fps games for like 3~4hours likes cs, tf2 and so on...
but for some reason, I've been playing hf2 for like 2hrs and i felt like throwing up and dizzy as well.
portal is ok i guess, its jusst hf2 that i need to take a break after few hours of play
I wonder why hmmm :/ -
You didn't get dizzy from portal? Wow. I did. So much spinning when you portal from vertical to horizontal.
-
Heh, I just got the orange box (hard copy), but it's sitting in a PO Box til May 23 DDD=
So I downloaded portal's "predecessor" (Proof of concept, I guess) - Narbacular Drop - in the mean time.
It's not portal by any means of course, especially given somone's posted a speed run of <3 minutes, but given that it's a free PoC program, not an actual game title, I think it's well worth checking out.

i never got dizzy while playing portal, or any other game. i don't think i've ever heard of someone getting dizzy from a game, but i guess it makes sense.
-
i hear people get sick when sniping it cod4
-
It might have been portal, it might just be me. I definitely do not play single player FPS. For some reason, I just start to get queasy and uneasy
, but as soon as it's multiplayer action, i'm all in. Halo, for example, when I played it back in the Xbox days, I would get uneasy after a while of playing solo player, which can account to why I never finished story alone. Once I play multiplayer w/ friends though, i'm up for hours w/ em.
-
I promise, it's definitely not just you. That topic's a good read.
-
Take some motion sickness pills.
-
But don't you find it odd that I can play multiplayer fine, but not single player? Even if it's the same game?
-
Lol, that is quite odd. Ive never had any problems with motion sickness unless my blood alcohol lvl is .08+
-
The help to calm your stomach; something to do with sugar-levels I think. -
I tend to start feeling sick after playing HL2 for a while. I have played it so much lately though that it isn't affecting much anymore. Guess I'm just getting use to it.
It's too bad really, because it was a real problem considering I loved the game lol -
When I play games solo, I'm usually very engrossed in the game, and my eyes are locked onto the screen. This is a perfect situation for causing motion sickness in individuals who are susceptible.
When I play games on multiplayer (console or LAN) I'm usually with my friends jumping up and down, laughing a lot, and DEFINITELY not keeping my eyes deadlocked onto the screen.
So if your situation is like mine, then I can tell you why you don't get sick playing multiplayer! I don't think you are staring as intently on the television or monitor, and you are probably playing from further back as well.
Gaming-Sickness/Motion Sickness is actually more common than you'd think. There are several remedies, but the one that works best is taking frequent (once every 15 minutes) breaks from gameplay. Walk around and drink some Gatorade and water for a minute or two, and then get back into the game.
Also sit far enough back from the monitor that your field of vision isn't completely filled by the screen or monitor. Make sure to look away from the game every couple minutes.
It can be treated very similarly to sea-sickness and car-sickness.
Also try sitting with good posture, that'll help clear it just a little bit. -
Its wierd, I got extremely nauseous when I tried to play the original Half Life.
After like 30 minutes, I was ready to throw up and had to stop. The really strange thing is that I am perfectly fine playing Counterstrike 1.6 even though it basically uses like the same textures and models. -
I used to be really into the HL scene (more than you will ever know) and after a number of years I got out of it for various reasons...but for $10.00 it got my butt off the fence and finally bought the Orange Box. Now to download all those files ugh! I am on a wireless card so I can only download 5gb a month but I'll head home in a couple weeks and just use my brothers DSL to finish off the rest of the downloads.
Thanks for posting +1 rep.

i remeber when halo3 came out, i played and beat it in oneday without taking a break and i didnt had any nauseous feelings.
Its just hf2 that's causing me to feel dizzy after few hours of playing lol -
^ I did that too. Went out at 12 to get it, messed around a bit, then started campaign around 3 AM. I was w/ a friend. We played it through the whole night till like 10 AM. lol good times.

I remember my first FPS on PS2 was Half-Life. After playing for more than 30 minutes at a time I'd feel extremely sick and would have a headache that would last for about 15-30 minutes after I'd stopped playing.
I've never had that problem with any other FPS (Halo1,2,3, Resistance, CSS, UT, COD, Rainbow 6, ect). I'm hoping that it won't be as bad for the Orange Box when I finally get a chance to play it. -
i just bought the orange box on friday, finished HL2 and Portal, i didn't feel sick...
-
lol only game i've felt sick from playing after was CoD 4. And it was on my second playthrough of the campaign for some reason. First time through was fine...weird

Portal was short & easy, never made my sick/dizzy or anything.
However the Challenges get to be hard as heck for the last ones.
I beat all of them except like 3 of them and I got so annoyed at the impossibles that is the final challenges that i gave up.
I was stuck on the time trial for the stage with all the robot sentries, I got like within .02 seconds but never could make it.
If you crave more out of the game like I did, you should look into some user created maps. I was always hoping they would start to come out with them and they did, but the ones I played were premature and not too good, however by now I am sure there must be some pro maps out there. -

Odly enough even know I know it works I cant find any pictures of it, maybe nobody was daring enough to play the game in full surround. -
HL2 was a little infamous for having a slightly different field of vision from standard FPSes. Apparently, the narrower-than-normal FOV caused people to get motion sickness. Try changing the FOV and see if it helps.
-
i got sick on gears of war 2 with the camera that was on the ocean ....
-
I wonder what it is that some games do that while others don't? -
I've never experienced any nausea while playing any video game, on multiple platforms and displays, and many types of game. I guess I'm just lucky. I can game for hours on end without problems.
Seems odd, considering I do get carsick on long rides (1 hour or more). Never happens while I'm driving though...I just drove 3 hours between Columbus and Cleveland and didn't have to stop once. -
I dont feel nauseous playing hf2 anymore
for some reason its gone and
i think its just that my eyes had to adjust to the game for a while lol -
