Arkham City $25? Might be worth picking up at that price.

The question is, will Steam offer it for $25 soon?

How long is this "Black Friday Offer" good until? Midnight EST Friday?

I jumped on the Arkham City for 25 deal. I don't care which program I use to launch the game.

I still have not played my Arkham Asylum that I got from Steam during the last Christmas sale ($8). I figure by the time I play Asylum, Arkham City will be dirt cheap.

$25 is a good deal though, but I'd wait for steam to offer that price, I am sure they will during the Christmas sale.

Yeah, considering I may not have time to play it, it's not a good deal if I don't play it until it costs < $25 everywhere else. But I'm a sucker for a good deal on a good game.

Just picked up Dragon Age 2 for $9.99. I know it's not RPG-of-the-year material, and I know it basically all takes place within Kirkwall, but I have yet to see any suggestion that ANY recent Bioware game isn't a good value at $9.99.

I'll also have to see how I like Origin. I know Steam is the industry leader, but I'm honestly not all that happy with Steam. The program itself can be buggy at times for me, and the copy of KOTOR I got off of Steam doesn't work right with Windows 7...they shouldn't be offering it for sale if they haven't patched it to make it work with modern OSes.

I would say DA2 is worth 10 bucks. I paid 30 for it and was disappointed, but for 10 I'd be ok with it.

Well it got an 8.5 from IGN and a 8.0 from Gamespot, so I can't imagine that I'll be disappointed with it as a $9.99 purchase. I can't help but wonder if the widespread negative feedback on forums about it is not so much that it's the most awful game ever, or if people simply had expectations higher than it delivered and so it seemed truly awful. If it didn't carry the "Bioware" or "Dragon Age" name, and people approached it with a blank slate instead of high expectations, would the overall consensus be "not great, but certainly good"?

Well, sites like IGN and Gamespot rarely give out low reviews of big name games.

But yeah, you're probably right. Unfortunately for BioWare, it's impossible to decouple those expectations from their products.

The combat was much better than DAO, but they should have made it a bigger game. Also, the fact that enemies routinely explode in a shower of body parts when you hit them with your sword is pretty ridiculous.

I don't know, I just expected a lot more from the game.

If you don't have Skyrim, save the 10 bucks to add to the purchase of Skyrim instead.

If you do the main story only it would take 6-10 hours depend on the difficulty. But with all the sude quests, riddle trophies and challenges it would take a good 40-50 hours out of your time.

In all fairness, IGN gave the 2009 Bethesda game "Rogue Warrior" a 1.5 out of 10, and gave Brink a 6.5 out of 10, even though they gave Fallout 3 a 9.6 out of 10 and Skyrim a 9.5 out of 10.

What I find really interesting about DA2 is that so many of the criticisms remind me of the differences between Mass Effect 1 and 2. The sequel has a more action-oriented, more polished combat system, and looks much better graphics-wise, but lacks the immense universe feel and lacks some of the detailed RPG controls in terms of stats while leveling up and in terms of inventory management. I think the sequel approach made more sense for a shooter-action-RPG like Mass Effect, whereas the former makes more sense for a top-down-traditional-RPG like Dragon Age, but I can at least see what they were trying to do with DA2.

Santa (aka my wife) almost certainly has Skyrim and Deus Ex: HR covered; just gotta wait until Christmas ;) This was in addition to those two, not instead of those two. Without even playing DA2, I know it's not a game anyone should get instead of Skyrim or Deus Ex. Now, I loooooooove Bioware, but after reading all the reviews of DA2, I knew it wasn't worth $59 or even $29. But for $9.99? Hell, I've had lunches of chicken wings and beer that cost more than that, and did nothing more for me than give me a stomachache all afternoon.

I wouldn't exactly call Rogue Warrior and Brink big name games. Bethesda is a biggish publisher, but not on the level of EA and Activision. I think I would personally give DA2 a 6 or 7 out of 10.

The deal just got even sweeter. Because I purchased Dragon Age 2 for $9.99, Origin just gave me a $10 gift card (well, gift code) for any game of $30 or more if I buy it during December.

Translation: Because this was my first Origin purchase, I just got Dragon Age 2 for free!

Fair enough...how about a 5.5 out of 10 for Final Fantasy XIV? "Big names" don't get bigger than Final Fantasy.

We can discuss this forever. Fact is, most of the big review sites operate mostly on a 7-9 scale. Even the review you linked was fairly generous, as FFXIV was generally regarded as horrible.

Yeah, fair enough. Back on track, I think it needs to be emphasized that I got a $10 coupon code for buying my first Origin game, even when the game I bought was only $9.99. Not sure if it's still in effect, but if it is, it's worth taking advantage of.
