I was wondering how you over clock, and I was wondering if it was a wise decision.

you do know that giving someone a google link will just lead them back here again?

Download ATITOOL, gogle that, and do both of the stress test, the one for your core and the one for your memory.

It is safe within means, if you push your card to hard for too long it will destroy it!

I dont know who much you can do with that X1400, but OCing a weak card will not help a whole lot.

Well no one has asked yet if he means CPU or GPU overclocking. That said, it's not likely he can overclock his CPU. narsnail pretty much got it for the GPU.

Do you mean for the numbers? ex my GPU's clocks are:

    core: 400 mhz
    mem: 400 mhz

    mhz = megahertz

why would he post here in the gaming forum if not for the GPU, all CPU related stuff is usually in the Manufacturer or Hardware sub forum.

    what he said, megahertz.

Overclocking isn't something you want to begin learning about on a laptop. Grab your 4 year old desktop and start from there.

I'm all for OC'ing on desktops as you have control over cooling and can easily replace parts that are weak or that you break. If you mess up an OC on a laptop it usually spells a total loss.

First off, there are 3 things that you can overclock. The CPU, GPU, and RAM. Some tools, like AIbooster for Asus motherboards overclock the CPU AND the RAM, since a CPU with a high FSB is worthless if the RAM's FSB is way lower. Sometimes, the multiplier of the CPU is the one that's changed. As for the GPU, which is your graphics processing unit, you can overclock the core clock, shader clock, and memory clock. Some cards won't let you overclock the shader clock though, as they are older, and shaders haven't been implemented. Which one do you wanna overclock? Overclocking also requires undervolting and undervolting, since a higher / lower clock requires more / less power.

If you don't know what mhz are, maybe you shouldnt be oveclocking.

as long as he doesnt push too hard there is nothing wrong with is. different chips have different tolerences.

On a side note,, I know OCing can get you like 1000-2000 extra 3mark06 points, but what does overclocking actually do in terms of FPS, say for COD4 or crysis for say a midrange card (8600gt or 2600hd). It might give you a 25% increase in 3dmarks, but i doubt its a 25% increase in fps.

theres not that much to know? you move your speeds up at small increments and test them out...quite easy if you ask me.

i ve also been wondering, cause i OC'd my CPU from 1.6 to about 1.85Ghz and also undervolted it.. My temps have also went down from about 85C to 60C with my cooler, am I killing my CPU even though it runs cooler.?? :D

I also OC'd my IGP.. :p :p X1150, core from 400Mhz to 475Mhz.. :p but I havent found any software that allows me to OC my mem clock on the IGP.. :(

you can't oc on igp video cards because it share's memory with your system memory.

i would o/c on a old desktop to get the basic's.

i o/c my Gpu on my notebook 2600HD to 2600HD XT speed's but i know what to watch for temps is number 1 and to be sure its stable

From what I know, the X1150 has dedicated memory, 256MB in total and clocked at 400MHz while also having up to an additional 256MB shared, thats why I think I can OC it.. hahaha!! :D

It is an integrated GPU, that's why you cannot find any program to overclock your VRAM (because chances are it doesn't have any). It shares the system RAM (ATi call it 'Hypermemory'). But as you're overclocking your CPU with the Front-Side Bus, you are also overclocking your RAM as you're effectively overclocking the motherboard to make the CPU run faster. So you are already overclocking the X1150's memory. Though really, I can't imagine it is worth it. Do you get any benefit from overclocking it?

ohhh.. so thats how it is, thanks for that.. been trying really hard to search for a tool that allow me to overclock something that doesn't exist.. anyways, I OC it since I am trying to squeeze every bit of performance I can, and it does have a tiny winy effect, +1fps average from 28 to about 29 in VT3..
