Just curious if anyone has had any success at overclocking the Intel IGP 4500MHD and how did you do it?

Thankfully another member here (hannspree) tore apart his netbook so we could get SetFSB to overclock the CPU which is working nicely. However, the IGP is barely affected with an FSB overclock. I was hoping with faster running memory it would also improve 4500MHD performance.

So is there any way to overclock the actual 4500MHD chip?

Please if you are a naysayer just for the sake of saying 4500MHD sucks, please go away. I am curious. I have a gaming laptop and desktop, but in the pursuit of maximum potential, I would like to see if this is even possible. My ultimate goal is to make Starcraft 2 playable. It barely is now with 1v1 scenarios (avg ~15fps and dips to 9-10fps with action, all low detail, 1280x720).

    INTEL GRAPHICS SUCK!!!11!!eleventyone!!1!

Anyway, a quick google search showed this. That was over a year, but even the newer results are are giving ixnay on the GPIay.

I think I did that wrong. Oh well.

FSB overclocking will increase the integrated graphics clock.

I was about to tell you how to do it on the m860tu

The 4500MHD is strapped by the chipset at a certain timing based on your FSB and memory. Details you can find upon reviewing the PM45 datasheet off Intel's website. Applying a faster FSB via setfsb overclocking will overclock the 4500MHD along with it. That's as far as you can go. If want faster, consider a http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/418851-diy-vidock-experiences.html or a system upgrade with a decent gpu.

How far did you take the FSB on that notebook?

I took the FSB to 260MHz x 6.5 = 1.7GHz CPU from 1.3GHz CPU. The GPU score did increase, but not by much. The memory is DDR3-1066, so it has the room to OC, just the rest of the system may need a slight voltage bump to go any higher. But that probably isn't possible without a hard mod. Temps don't exceed 65C either. It's just nice to see the option in SetFSB now. :D

I understand that. This is the GS45 chipset. I know about the ViDock and would have bought a netbook with gaming capabilities if I wanted, but just wanted to see what I could tune this little guy to do. So far I'm overly impressed with the fact that I can even overclock without a hard mod.

Back to my original question: is there a utility that allows overclocking of the 4500MHD?

P.S. @ Forge = I think it would be ixnay on the PIGay but that sounds... wrong. oink oink! ;)

GMAbooster allowed downclocked 945GMs to be increased in performance. The author found no hidden registers to do the same on a x3100 or 4500MHD. So the answer is there is no current utility to overclock the 4500MHD.

Thank you. I am finding FSB overclock does give marginal gains, but probably due to faster RAM speeds.
