    Hello,

I've been reading the forums religiously since I got my HP DV9500t in. I have a seemingly simple, but confusing question to answer. I'll cut to the chase:

I have an 8600M GS in my machine, I CAN and HAVE been able to adjust clock speeds in Vista. Everything worked, I was pleased. I switched to XP, because I prefer it over Vista. I have NOT been able to overclock my card in XP since I installed. I can change the slider in nTune, RivaTuner, etc, but the clock just resets to stock settings.

I am not sitting in front of my laptop right this second, but I believe I am using the 163.17 drivers from this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=140131

They are just modified ones from laptopvideo2go.

So, the question is, what am I missing? Does the driver version affect it? I don't feel it's a hardware issue if I can set the option in Vista just fine. I have read that a few people have had luck with various driver versions. Has anyone been able to overclock an 8600M GS in XP, and if so what drivers and what program to overclock?

I played around with making my own drivers from laptopvideo2go, but I didn't have any luck and before I spend 8 hours making it work right I'd like to confirm that I have a driver that will work with overclocking.

    Thanks alot :)

    Hi
I have the same problem. For some reason only some of the XP drivers are overclockable.
I have yet to find a 160 series that are.
Try the 100 or 150 series. you will have more success there. It is just a bit of trial and error.

I lucked out and tried a 158 driver, not 100% sure which one off the top of my head and it's working again. The only problem is, it seems to run slower than the 163.16 I had installed when not overclocked.

I will try a few different ones.
