mmmmk.... so I'm kinda new to overclocking, using rivatuner right now.

i decided to test out the overclocking ability of my computer:
    inspiron 1720
    4gb ram
2.5 ghz intel 2 duo core processor
    8600m gt

originally at store bought speed with 169.09 drivers it got a 3dmark06 of 3495

then i overclocked it gradually until i was at 650/540, which gave a 3dmark06 of 4695 and max temp 60 C

    so heres my question:
would it be safe to overclock it a bit more? From what i've read the only dangerous things about overclocking is high temperatures and artifacts. As i said, my max temp was 60. I only ever saw one kinda darkened frame that i guess could be considered an artifact.

Is there something I'm missing about the safety of overclocking? Or can i oc it some more? The reason i ask is because people usually post in the range of 650/540 as their MAX overclock on 8600m gt.

I think the overclock you have is good. You may be able to get a bit more, try it, keep an eye on the temps as you do. In reality any overclock is quite bad as it is pushing the card harder than it was designed, but I don't know of anyone who has killed their graphics card by overclocking sensibly, by that I mean keep an eye on the temps. Just for your reference I get a max temp of 95C when playing games for a couple of hours so your 60C would be a godsend to me. (I am running the card in a smaller case though-14.1")
