Hey guys, i've been playing about with drivers etc etc, currently on 186.03. liking them at the mo, still gona try others probably..
my question is though, is this card underclocked by default? i've read about that is it, but i'm a bit confused about it....
i've undervolted at 0.89v.
i've overclocked the core from 500mhz to 600mhz and i'm getting quite a good fps increase, temps are staying below 84..
Is this safe you think? even though i've undervolted the lowest voltage it can go to?
i will not overclock the memory as i know this doesn't have a temp sensor, and i'm scared of frying this one as i did before with my 9500, gs lol
Thanks.

9600M GT DDR3 is great!
84C as maximal temperature is considered safe.
9600M GT is not underclocked by default.
In case this statement confused you, here is an example:
Some people made statement like 9650M GT is a higher clocked 9600M GT. This statement clearly stated it has nothing to do with 9600M GT underclock. So, 9600M GT is 9600M GT. It is 500/1250/800 by default. Don't mess up with those confusing statement.
PowerMizer(build-in underclocker/naturally/downclock):
9600M GT with Nvidia Driver(good 1) installed will have a good condition PowerMizer. PowerMizer will auto downclock the GPU while you're not using it, for instance, gaming. It will raise up the clock when you're gaming. With PowerMizer you will get lower idling temperature.
You made a good choice on not OCing the Memory Clock. But Memory Clock OCing can increase performance harshly. In exchange, we don't know how much does it heated up.
0.89V is the lowest for 9600M GT already. If you goes much lower, BSOD will appear. Again, 84C as maximal temperature for a OCed 9600M GT is safe! -
The 9600M GT DDR3 is a great gpu.
With 0,89V you can go up to 620/1550/memory max/ as a maximum for benchmarking. The 0,89V limits the core and shaders voltage only, not the memory. So you can still maximize the memory clock.
I scored more than 7100 pts at 1280*800 with 620/1550/975@0,89V
In game it might be a little instable with these clocks cause it's too close to the 0,89V limit (at least for my gpu). So you have to decrease them a little. My max stable clocks@0,89V for gaming during hours is 610/1525/950.
But the best way to go in my opinion is 600/1500/900. I played many different games with these clocks and for months. Not even a single crash. Perfect. 78-79°C max.
The GDDR3 memory fries not as easily as the DDR2 in my opinion. It's known to use less power and to heat less. But in case you're afraid for your memory then i suggest you 600/1500/800.
Did you undervolt your cpu too ? Cause it will decrease your gpu temp too and give you room for GPU OCing. -
Thanks for great replies guys, much appreciated, i'm gonna have a play about still, might try the memory a little bit, so you have had it for a while then Kallogan and it's been fine? i see you have same card, and i agree, awesome little GPU for a mid range card.
Yeah also, my CPU is undervolted. -
>.> I never overclock my gpu memory for laptops. Never had a gpu die on me yet, several people go all out overclocking their gpu's including the memory here and then complain when it dies. I say just leave it alone, you might get another 1-2 fps more at best.
-
Yeah thats what's i thought about memory, do you overclock core then? -
Yah, my 9600m gt is at 9700m gt clocks. Seems to handle everything just fine, so I haven't pushed it any further.

You do notice a diffrence in preformance when you oc the memory.. I remember when I had my 9600m GT I had it at 750/985/1625 it never ran higher that 82c. Thats just my opinion though, becareful though temps can rise high due to overclocking..

Yeah sod the memory overclock, i tried it 100mhz more than default, didn't get any boost in fps, so core 600mhz is fine for me.
Overclocked 9600M GT
