I've been wanting to upgrade my go 7900gs for a while now, but recently started overclocking and have seen some massive performance gains. I understand that no matter what, the 7950gtx is still the better card (20 pipelines vs. 24 pipelines, faster stock clockspeed, etc), but with the clocks I have on my Go 7900gs (usually 590/790 for gaming), what kind of performance gap are we talking about here. I don't want to waste the ~$300 on a video card if I'm only looking at a 25% or less gain in performance. I know what the benchmarks are for both cards, but is there any real gaming benchmarks comparing an overclocked go 7900gs with a go 7950gtx?

I say that there isnt a huge difference, I mean you could compare 3dmarks and tons of benchmarks, but in the end I dont think the extra 10 fps is worth it unless you have the money. If you have some cash laying around and are feeling adventurous (cutting and modifying your pc) then go for it.

Wow, what drivers are you using for your Go 7900 gs?

I've been using the XTreme-G MobileForce 94.20 for a while now. They are definately the best drivers I've ever used.

I don't really have the money laying around as of right now, but I do love having very powerful hardware. I'm not even that huge of a gamer (I only have time for games like 3-4 hours a week :) ), but I am a major graphics whore. If I had the money to waste, I'd order the card ASAP, but I can't really justify spending ~$300 on only a very small performance gain. But if its more like 40-50% (which I doubt), I will end up ordering the card.

The XtremeG 94.20s are indeed great drivers. I've used them before myself.

I can tell you right now that the difference between the Go7900GS and the Go7950GTX is not worth $300. Note that if you do go to a Go7950GTX you will be looking at a substantial increase and power consumption. The standard Go7900GS uses less than half the power of a Go7950GTX. I am sure that even when overclocked, the Go7900GS would use less than a Go7950GTX by a good amount.

Sounds great, thats exactly what I needed to hear :) . I'm very happy with the performance of this card, but it was just bothering me that there was an option that was potentially much faster than my setup.
