7 FPS boost would be hard with OCing on any laptop card.

Look at the numbers: You would need a 30%+ overclock to have a chance at 30FPS. That's if everything else isn't holding you back.

    Short answer: No.

    Nope, it isn't. It's 30.4 % OC :p

But yes, achieving such levels of OC is normally not possible.

Well, this is kinda disappointing. :/

What about the 580m? It'll go over 30fps, right?

    Short answer, no.

IMO an average of 30FPS isn't enjoyably playable, it's still going to dip in the low 20's at times, esp during fast movement. Gameplay is more important than visuals, so if you feel it's not worth playing unless you can crank everything to max, that should tell you something.

I would be wary of overclocking mobile chips, they already run pretty hot to begin with.

You can try using MSI Afterburner to overclock but I don't know if mobile GPU's are supported. :S

Additionally, I highly doubt the overclocking results you can get on a mobile chip will give you 30fps... Most likely 25 - 28fps but 30 is asking for a bit much I think. Thermal limits will probably stop the chip from overclocking enough to gain too many frames to be very useful.

Dont own Nvidia card but heres my experience with the game.

Running Crysis 2 in Dx11 with High Resolution Textures & Ultra preset gives me around 19 to 21 fps on the first map once you get the suit.
I was playing at 1920x1080 with Catalyst set to "Optimal Quality.

Lowering it down to 1280x720 makes it much more playable with frames over the 30fps mark.
Unless you use a dual GPU i dont think we will get smooth ultra gameplay until the 28nm cards hit the market.

I have no problem playing it at high. It's just that I'm going to have to stick with a laptop for the next couple of years and would like it to last that long without having to switch everything to much lower settings later on.

The 485m allows a little voltage increase in the vbios, with this you should be able to push it a bit more, worth a try imo.

590m doesn't exist, and 6** and up series are pure speculation and there's no way to say whether it will work or not. Maybe they decide to revise the MXM standard... who knows.

Upgrading to 28nm cards would be pretty sweet, but if it will use the same standard as current cards then Clevo will find a way. :D
