    Hi guys!
So I have a 6970M in my Sager NP8150-S1. I see options to overclock it in the Catalyst program. Has anyone here overclocked this card in the same laptop? Can you please tell me what the safe parameters are? I would hate to melt my silicon :p

You wouldn't have to worry about melting the silicon, since well before that would happen, the thermal shutdown would occur. Check out the sager/clevo forum for specific users feedback, as for me I use Trixx gpu utility to overclock.

AMD Overdrive wont OC the card to the limit, so 710 MHz Core & 1000 MHz Memory is stable here.
Saphirre TriXX can buypass the limit so there i could go as high as 850 Mhz Core and 1050 MHz Memory. (Dident dare go any higher until i get my IC Diamond.)

;) good thing i got the S1 with the diamond compound in it ;)

so those values i should be able to set using CCC and be good to go? how do I test this? if it keeps running Crysis for an hour without crashing them i'm good?

Then it will be fine, at least for Crysis. Could still be unstable in other games... but an overclock of about 800/1000 should work fine. Just watch your temps when you start overclocking.
Of course it depends on the chip... if you're very unlucky you might not be able to get to 800... it always needs some testing.

Also make sure you have the latest driver, they give you the best performance. (11.6)

    Ignore the warnings while installing.

800/1000 is standard and totally safe. Whether you can clock higher than that will depend on the quality of your GPU.

Like Kevin said, try the 800/1000. It is a great overclock for beginners. You can go higher as long as your temps don't get too high. I have reached a stable overclock of 835/1215 on my stock pasted M17XR3. If you are really keen on overclocking to the limit, move up in small increments and check the stability and temps to make sure it's a good OC. I use Sapphire TRIXX by the way.
