    Hello everyone.

I have been overclocking for a while my Inspiron 9400's 7800 go video card and something has been bugging me. I always use 2 profiles in RivaTuner to change my clock on the fly. One for default factory underclocked Dell setting(250/658) and one OCed for gaming(329/787). Whenever I want to play a game I just select my OC Gaming Profile and then after my gaming session I select Default Profile to go back to normal clock settings. My question is: Can this constant video card clock changing do something bad to my card? Should I just leave the card overclocked always or it is perfectly safe to keep using my Rivatuner profile method?

    Thank you everyone in advanced.

Well, I will say that whenever you overclock your graphics cards you always run the risk of hardware damage. With my experience I would say that if you didn't overclock it too much, (too much) varies for every card usually and sometimes can only be found out by trial and error then you will be alright. Just don't go crazy and push it too hard, the constant switching back and fourth shouldn't matter much as long as you stay within a certain (gap) or field.

Thanks for the fast reply. I am not concerned about pushing my clocks too far, actually the OC I have always used is a lot less than what most people use with this card and far below the optimal OC when you click detect optimal clocks.

My only concern is just about OCing before gaming then going back to normal clocks speed after gaming. I am just worried about the constant switching back and forth and sometimes I wonder If I should just leave it OCed always.

Anyways thanks for the fast replay again :D.

No problem, like I said as long as you don't push it too far it shouldn't matter if you switch or leave it on OC. I would suggest switching actually because most applications don't need an overclocked graphics card.
