I have just purchased a Dell XPS 1530, 2.5 core duo processor, 4 gig ram, nvidia 8600m gt.
I want to overclock this laptop to get a better performance on games like crysis but am new to this. I have heard Riva tuner is good? What should I do to overclock it to a better but safe level. I am confused by figures like 612/480mhz what does this all mean?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Go search for ntune 6.0. the one that was given to u was directing you towards the 5.05 version from nvidias site. also, laptopvideo2go.com is also a good site to check. Make sure you check dell's website for updated drivers and to check windows update occasionally.

Also, increase the clock speeds and memory speeds slowly. Going way over the upper limit could cause hardware damage. If you're only a few megahertz over, you'll get artifacts but will know to decrease the speed to prevent damage before damage actually occurs.

Generally you can increase by 75 MHz or so safely pretty much all the time (though it would be wise to do so in 25 MHz increments just to be safe), and after that go by 5 or 10 MHz at a time. It also is recommended to increase core clock and memory clock seperately, rather than both at once, so you know which one is set too high when you start getting artifacts.

612/480 means core clock of 612 MHz, and memory clock of 480 MHz. Do NOT assume that because someone else can run stable at these frequencies with the same card model (I doubt that actually is the exact same model), that you can. Every individual card is different.
