Im a noob when talking about overclocking anything, I got a m17x with dual gtx 280m. What are safe overclock numbers for this specific card? Ive look around but cant find anything solid.
Thanks

since 280m are very outdated, i'd rather recommend to look into cheap 7970m's since they are the best bang for the buck.

if you can cool it, 650/1025/1650 (core/memory/shader) should work perfectly fine; assuming you're using MXM 3 and not MXM 2.1 Type IV. I had a D900F with a 280M in it, and I had to overvolt and run it at 650/1000/1650, and it eventually broke and wouldn't do that anymore (though I think it was due to thermal pads wasting away or something; I was never able to maintain it properly back then) but you should be capable of it.
If that doesn't work, 630/1000/1600 is a definite safe bet and gives a substantial enough boost in performance. -
I will definetly try that.. Im stil waiting for alienware to release a new m18 .. Heard too many bad things about the current one. Also it only comes in gray color which I hate. But noone can tell when and if they gonna come with a new one.

It's possible when the new maxwell chips come out, but if broadwell is not socketed (i.e. integrated only) then they'll HAVE to release new models.

King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
You are joking broadwell will be integrated!?
-
As far as we know, mobile broadwell chips are not going to have socketed variants. That's what all the rumors are pointing to, and Intel was supposed to have broadwell out already apparently, but it's delayed due to issues with the 14nm process. Who knows? I just know if it DOES come out integrated-only, that's many many years backward in PC tech and I'm dead certain many non-enthusiast people would be annoyed as well.

Same as to my knowledge.. I wouldn't be surprised.. Just look at the push Ivy Bridge / Haswell with the ULV CPU's and the socketed H/HQ CPU's in Haswell.. If this happens, the Sager laptop with the desktop CPU is what I'll have to get to get an upgradeable CPU LOL.....

You al talking algorithms there to my eyes LOL. All i need to now when is the darn alienware IF theres one coming out.
