What program is best to overclock the card and what speeds should I clock to for best performance gain?
-
Try Riva Tuner Thats Quite Basic For beginner overclockers
i cant tell u the clock speeds to look for but as soon a I try to oc my G1S ill get back to so shorty -
Run them "as an administrator".
I got 630/530 with the DDR2 version. You could probably get 650/750 or something crazy. -
What are the best drivers for overclocking? The 158.45?
-
dude, u don't need to oc this card, at least not yet, i run everything hi in current games, including moh:airborne and bioshock, not to mention earlier games... imho
-
Believe me, you aren't running bioshock on high with good framerates. Or at least not a decent resolution. It's not THAT good. I only get around 20 fps in bioshock with max settings on 1280x800 resolution, with the gddr3 8600mgt in the asus g1s.
-
dude, trust me, i run bioshock at max, everything!
-
That's not my point, you aren't getting 30+ fps. It isn't smooth by any means.
-
dude, i am and it is smooth
-
Prove it.
(10chars) -
i can make some screenshots, but later, ain't got time right now.
-
You can get a good look at a T bone by sticking your head up a bull's ass, but you take the butcher's word for it right?
-
idk
im getting 10 fps on WIC in 1200x800. overclocking it a bit wouldnt hurt. but wic plays slow so its ok to have low fps.
@oresteez: good luck with that bull. -
U guys are making an argument the guy asked a question!!!
-
Like I said Before Try Riva Tuner
ANYWAY! Dont Try the 164.44 it dosent allow you to overclock the 165 is the newest im still working on that one but the 163.16 allows u to over clock
I got 4236 with my G1S
They all have their own downside like for instance some of them dont allow your computer to come out of standby or stop your video card from working
Its really about trial and error but for performance without the ability to over clock. The 164.44 has proven to be one of the best... on the other hand the 163.16 has good overclocking potential
NB: All Driver Operate Different With Different GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) So i might get a totally different 3D score than say you so it depends which GPU you are Using
NOTE: OVERCLOCK AT YOUR OWN RISK...I cant stress this enough
I have had very bad experiences.. Trust Me
In conclusing Try the 163.16 To OC and The 164.44 For Performance Without OC abilities

i guess, i was wrong! i'm gettin around 30 fps in bioshock, BUT it really does run smooth! if i didn't install fraps today, i would've thought that the game was running really fast. don't know how to explain that, but if i was getting around 20fps on my old laptop, it would really show, unlike in this case...
-
I did BIOS level OC to my 8600M GT DDR2 Version (Aspire 5920G).It's really easy and cool.I wrote the guide for Aspire 5920,But it works with all MXM cards.
My friend successfully do BIOS Level OC to his C90 too....
Aspire 5920: VGA Bios modification/flash/restore guide -
why did u bios overclock surely its easier to driver overclock... and u can go back to default values after
-
BiG V, screenshot or it didnt happen, and dont take a screenshot of you inside a really small corridor where all your rendering is a wall. Take a screenshot of the opening scene in the ocean with the fire, or maybe the water break in the pipe. Make sure you have fraps overlay on.
-
FRAPS does lower the FPS by a couple frames to my experience anyways.
-
3 good reasons..
I do not need to install another program;
i can USE every driver an have overclock;
I can use linux and have overclock -
-
Buddybot111, i already said that i DON"T in fact get 30 fps as i was thinking, i get medium 25, and the other guy was right, BUT it does run smooth and i wouldn't even be able to tell that fps are that low...
-
I honestly dont believe ur even getting an average of 25. For me at least in the opening scene with the fire and ocean I'd average more along the lines of 15-25. I'm not trying to get angry, but just really curious how urs is so much better.
-
I'm getting maxed out 25-30FPS 1280x1024 on a desktop 8600GT with a Sempron CPU so I think it is totally possible, depending on his resolution
-
buddybot111 what driver you're running at right now? I've heard some ppl have seen dramastic bioshock ingame speed increase with forceware 163.44
-
Im using 163.44. @JCMS the desktop 8600GT is much more powerful than the laptop version.
-
i don't really care for fps: 25 or 30, i can't tell with my eyes, so i choose to be ignorant! haha the main thing is the game runs smooth with everything on hi
-
Can somebody explain to me if you can overclock the 8600 GT in a Macbook Pro without altering the bios? I didn't know they locked out the overclock ability in the bios these days, that sucks.
Also, I keep reading that old drivers can overclock and newer ones can't. Are the drivers themselves locked as well? -
Buddybot, I gotta agree with Big V. I've run bioshock on a 1520 with an 8600GT oc'ed at 575/500 and in the opening scene I get around 27 or 28 fps. After 30 the human eye can't tell anyways.
-
Can anyone here explain how to OC 1520/8600GT in BIOS level? plz guide us guys and thanks a lot
-
Read Post Number 22 @ 3rd Page. That guy successfully OC his 1520 using my guide.
Aspire 5920: VGA Bios modification/flash/restore guide -
I'll do it in this weekend...Wish me luck
-
I don't think it is working (i.e. actually overclocking). I have the DDR2 GPU and run a Dell Vostro. I've heard something about the bios or some other thing being locked?...What do they speak of?
Thanks -
guys, stop arguing about fps and all that. A game running smooth is different for everyone, some say it runs smooth on even 18 fps, everyone has their own point of view.
My advice would be if you think a game is running smooth, DON'T run any fps benchmark thing to see how many fps you are getting...trust me you will be disappointed lol.
Example, I though WIC was running smooth on high/medium.....read on forums that good fps are 25-30 +. Ran fraps....was getting 18 fps lol, now the game doesnt seem smooth to me at all, since I know the fps its running at, before I felt it was running smooth and was enjoying the game till I ran fraps and got what fps the game was running at.
This really ticks me off -
I agree, as long as your satisfied with your performance, thats all that matters. As with most things in life perception is far more important then what something actually is.
-
Absolutely! Especially when 8600M GT is not a very powerful card(As the fact, it is not while a lot people think it is, at least when you compare with desktop 8800GTS or GTX).
If you're hardcore gamer who look for high resolution and eye candy gaming, 8600M GT is absolutely not for you. -
But yes, it is not a hardcore gamer's card designed to run at high resolution with maximum details enabled. Even the 7950GTX and 8700m aren't that either, when compared wth the 8800 GTS or GTX.
That being said, don't buy a notebook with 8600m GT expecting desktop card performance. But it can impressively run current gen games at 1280x800 with medium to high detail in most instances. -
*shudders* you people make me scared... I could never stand a fps below 55fps well... and your talking about 25-30... *shudders some more*
-
YES! Need more FPS!! Lay me down some OC'able XP drivers for 8600m GT!
-
-
K guys, I finally got it, with much help of course. I used ATI tools and the 101.29 drivers. Old I know but my 3dmark06 score went up 600 points (3735) at 1280 resolution. Thanks for all of your good Karma.
