    Run them "as an administrator".

I got 630/530 with the DDR2 version. You could probably get 650/750 or something crazy.

Believe me, you aren't running bioshock on high with good framerates. Or at least not a decent resolution. It's not THAT good. I only get around 20 fps in bioshock with max settings on 1280x800 resolution, with the gddr3 8600mgt in the asus g1s.

That's not my point, you aren't getting 30+ fps. It isn't smooth by any means.

    idk
im getting 10 fps on WIC in 1200x800. overclocking it a bit wouldnt hurt. but wic plays slow so its ok to have low fps.

@oresteez: good luck with that bull.

Like I said Before Try Riva Tuner :D

ANYWAY! Dont Try the 164.44 it dosent allow you to overclock the 165 is the newest im still working on that one but the 163.16 allows u to over clock

    I got 4236 with my G1S :D

They all have their own downside like for instance some of them dont allow your computer to come out of standby or stop your video card from working :(

Its really about trial and error but for performance without the ability to over clock. The 164.44 has proven to be one of the best... on the other hand the 163.16 has good overclocking potential

NB: All Driver Operate Different With Different GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) So i might get a totally different 3D score than say you so it depends which GPU you are Using

NOTE: OVERCLOCK AT YOUR OWN RISK...I cant stress this enough
I have had very bad experiences.. Trust Me

In conclusing Try the 163.16 To OC and The 164.44 For Performance Without OC abilities

i guess, i was wrong! i'm gettin around 30 fps in bioshock, BUT it really does run smooth! if i didn't install fraps today, i would've thought that the game was running really fast. don't know how to explain that, but if i was getting around 20fps on my old laptop, it would really show, unlike in this case...

BiG V, screenshot or it didnt happen, and dont take a screenshot of you inside a really small corridor where all your rendering is a wall. Take a screenshot of the opening scene in the ocean with the fire, or maybe the water break in the pipe. Make sure you have fraps overlay on.

I honestly dont believe ur even getting an average of 25. For me at least in the opening scene with the fire and ocean I'd average more along the lines of 15-25. I'm not trying to get angry, but just really curious how urs is so much better.

Can somebody explain to me if you can overclock the 8600 GT in a Macbook Pro without altering the bios? I didn't know they locked out the overclock ability in the bios these days, that sucks.

Also, I keep reading that old drivers can overclock and newer ones can't. Are the drivers themselves locked as well?

Buddybot, I gotta agree with Big V. I've run bioshock on a 1520 with an 8600GT oc'ed at 575/500 and in the opening scene I get around 27 or 28 fps. After 30 the human eye can't tell anyways.

I just installed the 163.16 on my XP SP2 machine. How do I tell if the overclock settings with RivaTuner 2.05 persist? They didn't the the previous drivers I was trying. My 3d MArk06 score was 3137 w/supposedly overclocking to 609/503.

I don't think it is working (i.e. actually overclocking). I have the DDR2 GPU and run a Dell Vostro. I've heard something about the bios or some other thing being locked?...What do they speak of?

    Thanks

guys, stop arguing about fps and all that. A game running smooth is different for everyone, some say it runs smooth on even 18 fps, everyone has their own point of view.

My advice would be if you think a game is running smooth, DON'T run any fps benchmark thing to see how many fps you are getting...trust me you will be disappointed lol.

Example, I though WIC was running smooth on high/medium.....read on forums that good fps are 25-30 +. Ran fraps....was getting 18 fps lol, now the game doesnt seem smooth to me at all, since I know the fps its running at, before I felt it was running smooth and was enjoying the game till I ran fraps and got what fps the game was running at.

    This really ticks me off

I agree, as long as your satisfied with your performance, thats all that matters. As with most things in life perception is far more important then what something actually is.

Absolutely! Especially when 8600M GT is not a very powerful card(As the fact, it is not while a lot people think it is, at least when you compare with desktop 8800GTS or GTX).

If you're hardcore gamer who look for high resolution and eye candy gaming, 8600M GT is absolutely not for you.

Well, it's all relative. A year ago people would have loved to have 8600m's power in a notebook. Cost is also a factor. I can buy a full notebook PC with 8600m GT, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD for the price of a pair of 8800 video cards.

But yes, it is not a hardcore gamer's card designed to run at high resolution with maximum details enabled. Even the 7950GTX and 8700m aren't that either, when compared wth the 8800 GTS or GTX.

That being said, don't buy a notebook with 8600m GT expecting desktop card performance. But it can impressively run current gen games at 1280x800 with medium to high detail in most instances.

This argument always makes me chuckle. People will swear on their lives that the human eye can't process more than x frames per second, where x is some randomly chosen number between 30 and 100. Always good for a laugh. ;)

Curious Thomask, are you thinking that I have Vista? As far as I know, you cannot OC the 8600M GT in XP wit 16x.xx drivers. If you know differently, I would be interested in trying it out. But as for now I'm running pretty well. I have Crysis running on medium settings (except shaders & shadows) at 30-60 fps, at 1024 (not the greatest) & 3DMark06 at close to 3800, so I'm happy.

when i posted that, i probably ran it on 163.xx, now i got 169.04. didn't try playing either bioshock or moh:aa on it yet. those two games: bio and moh are playable, but don't expect anything miraculous, but they play rather good imho.
