Ok, I just loaded up the 167.26 drivers and it's true, they are beautiful. 3dMark06 score jumped 300 points to 4073. Enjoy!

no need to flash it... just set rivatuner to startup as windows starts up... also with rivatuner u can underclock the card when there is no game running which in theory could offset any negetive effects of overclocking the card (correct me if i'm wrong here). with a bios flash the overclock is permanent?

    Follow my guide(@ signature)
It's a piece of cake work

With BIOS flash you only OC your 3D clock speeds(3D clocks use only when you playing game ) & no negative effect. It's same as RivaTuner driver level OC

You can Flash your card back to original state without any hassle ;)

whats the difference between driver level OC and VGA BIOS OC?

I have 169.01 drivers and I use RivaTuner 2.05 to OC

here are my results: 630/500 and shaders are 1260

3DMark06 score was 4432. My temps under load stay between 75-80c. Non-gaming use temp stays around 50-60c. are my OC's too high? Everything seems stable.

Driver level OC mean you use software to OC your card & it will gone to hell when you change your driver

VGA BIOS OC mean you change your default V-BIOS values to OC your card(Just like DESKTOP CPU OC using BIOS)

With BIOS flash it will stay as long as until you decide to flash back to original state..Plus point is driver changing will not destroy your OC & no need to test it again & again when installing new driver

Your temps are low compared to mine(90C MAX) ,it's not too hot .You are cool :D

They are probably high for my Card 256 MB DDR2...I would imagine you are running the DDR3 8600M GT. If not, nice moves. You can undervolt your puter in order to keep the temperature down ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=124420). Mine stays around 60C in Crysis. Singleplayer mode runs beautifully.

UPDATE: I just tried 600/500 for kicks, the driver crashed with a Windows error message! 590/490 it is.

oh, i should have thought about the CPU and BIOS OC first. thanks for the explanation. I might look into VGA BIOS flash, since im thinking about upgrading to 169.04 drivers (if theres any improvement over 169.01), although ocing them back is not too hard and troublesome.

I think these drivers keeps my gpu cooler than when i used 156.10 (horrible drivers). Or it could be the weather outside getting cooler. One day it was down as low as 48, and i've never seen it go below the 50's.

nope, DDR2. I wished it was 512MB's of DDR3! CPU temps are OK, i would prefer GPU temps to be around 70c at most but I know they can handle a lot more. i guess you can't have your cake and eat it too, huh?

I uninstalled NHC a few days ago, everytime at boot up, it kept dimming my screen brightness to the lowest and I tried all the settings to correct this but nothing worked.

Yes, there is an error. Rightmark CPU shows 48 at idle and did before I installed 2.06. But 2.06 is showing 41.

590/490 here. I undervolted my CPU and temps don't exceed 65C. I can run stable @ 605/510, but there was relatively little difference in benchmarks, and by bumping down, runs a degree or so cooler, and ensures stability.

    I undervolted as well using rmclock highest multiplier I have is 10x on a t7300 @ 2.0Ghz, I set that to 0.962 , stress tested and temp stays at 60 - 62 C.

havent tried to raise my gpu clocks after undervolting, will try tonight as before undervolting my mem clock could never exceed anything above 480

right now i have it at 610/1400/475

also do you guys get the cpu whine think when cpu is under stress...i get it its annoying as hell, is there a way to fix it??

169.01 it works I know for sure, for both my GDDR3 card and the DDR2 card. My clocks are 500/500 for the DDR2 card max, and 500/800 for the GDDR3 card.

Its strange but the c90 can overclock the cpu and those max overclocks are in overclock mode.

If I run a lower speed cpu mode like gaming or standard I can reach much higher gpu speeds (575 core stable on the DDR2 card) but the loss in cpu power actually made the 3dmark scores lower.

In game tho it would probably be higher.

I use 169.04 drivers and overclock with rivatuner to 525/440 on my 8600m GT with 256mb DDR2. I'm being overly cautious though and don't plan to push the card, but I could go a good deal higher with it remaining stable.

^ Yeah especially with the memory you can go to 475 and still be good, around 490-510 is where people are reaching their max with the core overclocked.

Hi, I have just a question: I have 8600m GT, but my problem is, that I can OC it on just 610@428, if I set the clocks higher, I get artifacts... especially I care about memory, because everybody is clocking it to 475+... anyone have any idea? thanx a lot. Im sorry for my english..

Each card will clock a little bit differently. One 8600 will go 475 memory, another 8600 will go lower or even higher.

You must be cookoo for Cocoa puffs...how did you get the 8600M GT to break 5000...and how did you get stay stable at such high clock speeds? Which drivers are you using?

    What rig are you running?

A bit aggressive aren't we, a 8600m GT DDR2 version can get close to 4k, once overclocked with c2d@ 1.6 only, I don't see how a DDR3 Version and probably a better CPU not breaking 5k. Honestly, he even mentioned that he wasn't running at the default res, instead he is running at 1280 x 854.

Running the new forceware. The "bioschock" driver I think.

    I've got a new vostro 1500 with a 8600GT.
The new 8600gt is one of the better ones for overclocking. My last one only went up to 650GPU/460Mem, the new 8600m GT clocks to 650GPU/550MEM I get better scores in 3DM06 as well. I even managed to get to 5000 3DM06 Points.
Now the Problem: I want to play MOH Airborne Multiplayer
    I used to get around 35FPS with the slower 8600GT @ 650/450
now with the new better OC 8600m GT I'm getting around 20FPS and lots of lag with the same settings!!!
I've tried new drivers but I can't figure out what's wrong.
I can't imagine the first 8600mGT with the lower 650/450 OC was faster than the newer 8600m GT at 650/550 OC!!! And it's lagging in all games, not just MOH....

    hmm
    i don;t get this...
the temp stays at the 42 to 50 celcius when i run the 3dmark even i over clock it to the max the riva tuner can go which is 715 core clock and stuff like that. is the temp sensor gone crazy or is it normal?? i do have my fan on the max speed, about 3000rpm, is that affecting?? because i might use the ati tool to clock it higher than the 715 core.

i think you both got it wrong, they person referring to undervolting was referring to cpu udervolting not gpu. cpu undervolting reduces cpu temp under ful load meaning you can slightly increase your gpu clocks higher than before

I clock my ddr2 core to 617 (Almost 30% increasement ) and has no problem, yet. While i can't get my memory above 460 which will start to show up artifacts in some intensive games and also crashes.
