    Hi Guys

I am not really familiar with overclocking, but was wondering if overclocking
X1600 on this laptop will greatly boost perforamnce on this laptop. You see, I do not want to get marginal perforamnce over sacrificing battery life and heat issues. But I am not sure if this card is underclocked on this laptop and has room for more overclocking without sacrifing other things that much.

Also, by overclocking this card, what kind of performance will it give me - I am not really interested on paper facts, just some real life experinces - maybe ability to play with more settings, etc.

    Please let me know.

To be honest, you'll probabily get from 3800 to about 4300 in 3dmkar05. This is a really low performance increase. It's not worth it for the extra 3 fps you'd get in some games... Not a huge different imho, worth a try though.

It really depends on the game you're playing.

Say you're playing Oblivion. I think it you would be lucky to get 5-10 more fps. Something like Counterstrike Source you may get up to 20.

From what I can tell you dont want your card overclocked while you are running off of battery. There are all sorts of incompatibility issues so most guides you will see (and most people will tell you) to never keep your card overclocked permanently or while you're running off of the battery.

This means you will be often loading profiles with your overclocking settings on them and as I've discovered it isn't always as simple as just loading them when you boot up (once my comp has been running for a matter of minutes I can start gradually overclocking again).

With all this said you are going to see some a pretty good performance increase (comparable to any overclocking you may do) just by installing the omega drivers and getting rid of your stock Asus drivers.

I have my w3j overclocked because it is something I just wanted to do (to get the best performance out of my laptop) not necessarily out of need. It depends on what your motives are. If you couldn't care less about those extra 7 fps and are worried about overclocking then don't do it. If its a project you decide would be fun/worth undertaking then go for it and we'll be here to help.

And mystery is pretty much right. I went from 3900->4500 in 3dmark.
