Why would it be a disaster? Is it the extra weight, space, or simply the fact that it looks odd? There are some portable coolers that are light, and some of them actually look cool (ymmv).

    Check out the thread

My problem is, last I checked (on that thread), there isn't a cooler that works for a 17" laptop that you can actually keep on your lap (because all the fans are on the bottom).

I don't think my gpu gonna explode after overclocking a little :)

Edit: After about 2 hours playing COD4 non stop temps are stable at 84~ C. Now I don't think it gonna really explode

Uncomfortable temps shorten the life of you're gpu. If you keep up with temps at 90C you won't be laughing in a years time when you have a big lump of nothing in front of you. Also take care that the 8600GT is one of the gpu's under Nvidia's "defective" list.

If I will play games about 4 hours a day, may it will last year or less.I rarely play games on laptop and that's almost normal temp like it was before. I will keep an eye on that, if it will get warmer I'll switch the overclocking profile.

If you cannot replace your 8600M GT and are out of warranty period under 80-85C max if you can replace it then maybe can take more risks. Cost of replaced graphics card less than new laptop!

you want ati tools and a 'heavy game' like crysis or mass effect. mass effect gave me an extra 5C than 3dmark06 at 1280*1024(i got 3.2k).

TDU and COD4 normally add about 3C extra than 3dmark06. Ran Atitool at 500/800 and reached a temp of 70C. Ran it at 550/800 and I reached 65C  . My CPU was undervolted on the second test but surly that doesn't mean a reduction in gpu temp.

It varies from card to card and computer to computer. You'll have to experiment with it yourself.

I decided to overclock my 8600m GT for the first time. I'm using ATITool to check for artifacts (running it alongside rthdribl), and I've found that my maximum core clock is 660. My problem is with the memory clock - I increased it to almost 1000 and my temps hardly increased and I saw no artifacts. I then ran 3dmark06 and the framerate for the graphics tests was stuttering along at single digit fps! I had to reboot to get my 3dmark going normally again (setting default clocks in rivatuner didn't work).

Anyone know what happened there? Could that perhaps be the powermizer kicking in (my temp was only at 76C though?)

so i have a question, i was wondering if this is to overclock ur cpu and ram or is it ur graphics card? and i have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD and wondering if thats overclockable?

and wen u increase each time by 10 hz and u said to check for abnormalities, wat would be considered an abnormality? like graphics look weird or cpu/gpu gets hotter?

You can not overclock integrated graphics. You need an actual graphics card to overclock.

so i have installed riva tuner and everything but underneath my graphics card where you click the system settings there is nothing... i have no system settings tab and its says in that line that it cannot find additional information...

so whether this is a signed driver problem or not i dont know but i thought the newest version got past this.

    I have a ATI mobility 3650

Hi! I tried using a RivaTuner 2.4 and with the latest nVidia driver 179.84beta and when I try to run Riva, I get the error that it doesn't support the dirver I have.

Next is should I click the Apply button every time I add 10mhz then run 3dmark?

I've tried various programs and methods, including the one that started this thread, but I never get the option of changing the clock settings. I'm running windows vista 32 bit edition with an ATI mobility radeon 3450, why would this be?

I'm using modded Catalyst 8.9, or 8.10 (can't remember which, driver says 9/23/08, 8.541) and I can overclock the HD 3450 with ATI Tool. Tray Tools and AMD GPU Clock Tool do not work. Strangely, though, I get 2 different clock rates, and I am not sure which is correct.

see this thread for more info.

PS--RivaTuner does NOT support this card. Don't know if future versions will, either.

I have no "system settings on mine. So why is this not showing up for me? i click the little icon settings thing and it only gives me 3 icons. I also even tried removing my second screen. It's weird i say.

edit:I'm also using hte latest forceware from laptopvideo2go for win 7 x64

I'm using Dox's 185.85 driver and having the same problem as l33t94m3r.

I have a 9800M GS so I'm not too bothered.

    Here's an update for everyone.

I've found that EVGA Precision is much, much easier to use than RivaTuner, so I'd recommend everyone to switch over to that.

    Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Hey guys.. wonder if you could help me with OC problem..
OK, 1st. I was using nVidia's control panel to configure a profile with clocks set to 550/950/1375 to run when I load games and save it, it works only until I restart the laptop. I can't find a way to configure it to run as it should even after a restart.
    pic related: http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/9444/14281918.jpg
using the latest nvidia drivers with latest tools.(have reinstalled).
2nd thing is this: http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/567/34944928.jpg see the card? see the available max speeds(the card can go much higher)? whats up with that ? this is the 2.24ver.
any idea's about any of that ? (nVidia part is more important).
    thanks

***update: nVidia sh1t works after adding the option "The system first starts windows". at startup it kicks the new speeds(profile) and then gets back to normal stats(auto) until I run one of the games then it kicks again as I configured.
I don't really know why this option did the trick.. but is works.
