i have an aspire 9300 with the geforce go 7600. It appears that i have one with the crippled 64-bit memory interface; so i've been trying to overclock it to squeeze a little more performance out of it, heat isn't an issue as i removed the stock thermal paste and used actic silver 5 and i keep a close watch on the temps.

however, when i go to overclock the graphics using riva tuner or atitool the clocks immediately revert back to their stock defaults even though there isn't a problem at all.

I'm thinking that overclocking has been blocked via the bios, can anybody shed any light on this or if there's a way around this because the performance i'm getting from the graphics on this unit is woeful and quite frustrating.

yeah i used rivatuner to do it; it was the only tool that would work on it. i was trying the ntune software before but rivatuner did the trick. I managed to get it up to 500 mhz but then one of the touchpad buttons on the mainboard got stuck down and i had to have the mainboard swapped out. The chip in there now will only get to 430 MHz but its still a marked improvement over the standard speed. At the moment i dont have it overclocked because i haven't played games on it for a while.

i believe the best cpu you can get is the tl-64 for this unit. price and availability may be an issue however. I've seen them on ebay a few times. I bought mine from work so getting hold of one wasn't an issue.
Personally i dont think going from the tl-56 to the tl-60 that i have has made any noticeable difference, especially when you consider how poor the graphics capabilities of the GPU are.
Might be worth saving your pennies :)
