hey guys, so with my last post, I decide not to get M11x.
But im pretty bored with my MBP, so I want to overclock the 9600 under windows 7.
i installed cpuz, gpuz, Dox 195.62 drivers. All i got was 6000 points in 3dmark06 and that is at 1280x800((((((
i want something like 6500
anyways, so I installed nVidia system tools and it can detect even motherboard stuff along with GPU clocks. However when I try to adjust slider, the programs says some sort of invalid operation.
What is weird is that under cpuz, there seems to be 4 levels of clocks
there is the lower power mode,
a 2D mode
and two 3D modes. one of them the GPU is clocked at 400/786/700 while the other is the reference 500/1250/800.
The NVidia system monitor shows the GPU clocks go up and down normally
The problem is that BOTH Rivatuner and NVidia system tools detect the "3D" performance clock to be the lower of the two 3D clocks.
So there is no way to increase the clocks to even above the reference!
Is this phenomenon on all 9600m GTs on all laptops?
Or is this some sort of trick Apple came up with so no one can overclock this GPU?
Any drivers/ways I can make Rivaturner and program detect the true "higher" 3D performance clocks?

first you are getting great 3dmark 06 score on stock clocks.second i have perfectly oced 9600m gt in hp dv5t and gained more than 1000 3dmark 06 score above stock.well rivatuner was also showing wrong 3d clocks on my laptop too but i oced it and its perfectly fine.it may not be detecting properly as mobile gpuz are not properly supported under rivatuner.
there is a guide for 9600mgt overclocking on hp dv5t on notebookreview.com,try that. -

I can like cook an egg on my MBP while gaming...Like others have said OCing is probably a bad idea.

yeah no more warrantee, so i dont care about that.
in Riva Tuner, I cannot get the clocks to be over even what the reference clocks are - b/c the program is "seeing" the lower 3D performance clock set as the 3D set, not the higher one. example: i can't only bring my shader slide up to 1138 MHz, which is way lower than the STOCK 1250MHz, b/c Riveturner think my card's shader is clocked at 786 MHz...
could someone paste me a link to the dv5t?
THANKS! -

Have you tried MSI afterburner? You will need to enable unofficial overclocking. You need to change the file call MSIAFTERBURNER in the main directory with notepad.

stock clock and under heavy load WITH fans ramped up all 6 of my machines will run from a low of 85c right to max temp and shutdown.
Unibodies do not seem to be made for continious CPU/GPU load about 60% -
i just make sure good air flow by lifting laptop in the air about 5 inches.if i place it down on surface then my temp easily reach 80 Celsius. -
I have to agree with the others... While I usually favor OC'ing to a certain degree, Apple does not give much heat headroom to their MBP models.
I recommend against an overclock on that model unless you have serious external cooling available.
Even then it is risky for extended periods... -
