Can someone help me overclock my ATI Mobility Radeon 2600 HD?

I downloaded ATITool but I have no idea what to do or how to overclock it.

I suggest getting a cooling pad before overclocking the GPU. It will drop the GPU's maximum temperature by a few degrees, so you should be able to overclock without going over the temperature you would normally get without the cooler and overclocking (preventing any extra heat damage).

RivaTuner doesn't work, at least not on the M-6851, which is the same mainboard as the 6864FX ("Tempest" Gateway platform). You need to use AMD GPU Clock Tool to overclock the GPU, and I would suggest undervolting using RMClock, as in this chassis, it appears ALOT of CPU heat gets transferred over to the GPU.

I posted in the M-6864FX thread how to overclock - let me know if you have issues with that... Using AMD GPU CLock Tool, you SHOULD be able to get about 100mHz extra on the core clock, and at LEAST 100-150mHz on the memory clock. Stock, my GPU after 2-3 3DMark06 runs reached 71-73c, whereas after overclocking *AND* undervolting, the GPU rarely got higher than 69c - CPU stayed under 60c, whereas stock and at 1.250v it was 72c

I keep overclocking my GPU but when I turn my laptop off and on it keeps reverting back to an in between setting, not the stock setting and not my overclocked, just in between em. Why?

I set it to 620/740 but once I restart computer it goes to 500/600, that isn't the stock settings either, it just randomly changes to 500/600...

I finally figured out how to overclock my GPU and how far I can push it but for some odd reason whenever I put in my settings in and restart my laptop AMD GPU Clock Tool reverts back to some in between setting... Not the default but not mine either... What's the deal?

yeh, the OC settings only work when you have the program on, you could try to search its settings and change it to automatically start when windows start.

I dont know anything about why it keeps reverting to some wierd clock settings though.

So all OCing programs have to be set every time you log on?

No ... if you are using RivaTuner (and I am sure others have this as well) there is a setting that says apply clocks at startup and then it oc's automatically as soon as windows loads up.

I thought you can overclock you graphics card right from the ATI Catalyst Control Center ... I know I can on my ATI x850 XT PE desktop card.

Yeah - there's no overclock facility for mobile GPU's, as far as I know.

X, I've also noticed, it (HD2600) seems to be really picky about the speed.
For example, I finally got ATITools .27b4 to change the clocks, but half the time it locks up, same as AMD GPU Clock tool. CLicking on "Find Max Core" gets it to freeze at 525 or so, and I know DANG well it goes 125 over (621 or so) stable.

If you plug in numbers into the AMD tool, it will lock up, too, unless it happens to be a number it "likes."

    Strange...

Never ever use those auto-overclocking features of any OC programs. They usually won't do a good job and in worst case cause HW problems. It's a lot more safer to do it manually.

Only feature that I use in ATITool is the 'Scan for Artifacts'. It's very handy tool to test for stability even with card's default clocks to see if your laptop's cooling is working correctly.

To check the OC stability: Set your core/mem (to 621/# in this case) in any OC program and run Atitool's scan for like an hour or so. If it finds any errors, clocks are too high, so stop the scan immedietly and lower the clocks. Also monitor temps while it's scanning (e.g. with HWMonitor). Never OC if your card is already running hot.

Other OC programs you might want to try are ATI Tray Tools and Powerstrip. E.g. for my card (ATI Mobility Radeon X1800), the only program that works is Powerstrip, the clocks won't stick with other programs. Also try different drivers. Omega drivers might work better than modded ATI desktop ones.

Omega has nothing since January, and nothing for ATI+Vista.

Seems he had a personal issue with his wife - wish him the best, btw....

    I don't use anything auto - that's scary ;)

What I was saying, is that it seems to be picky as to what NUMBER you put in, ie, you can put in, say, 525, and maybe it will round down to 524, but if you put 526, Vista will just freeze up on you.

    Strange - and I know that isn't a core-clock limit - it's wierd.

I noticed it when trying out ATITool's "find max core" feature - I saw it freeze up when it got to the 560's, but I know I've run super-stable at 600 and 621 on core, 748 and 775 on mem clock. I can run near 4400 3DMark06 at 640/775, so I *KNOW* 567/598 isn't a problem....

Don't know if I'm explaining it correctly...

I re-downloaded RivaTuner but I can't seem to overclock. Where is the overclocking area? Also can I save it so everytime I log on my laptop I don't have to keep overclocking it.

lol nice screenshot. You should just use printscreen next time

Looks like your drivers doesnt support it. I suggest using ATItool instead.

No program works for Vista 64 except AMD GPU Clock Tool and I have to put in my settings every single time I log on my laptop.

I haven't been successful either due to Vista 64 and signed drivers. I'm not complaining though, as I don't think I really want it to OC the video card at all times, just when I want to play a game that needs it. I wonder which program would work for us in Vista 64 that allows you to make profiles that we could turn on when we want to play certain games.

At least undervolting has been a success :D

X360proGamer, you need to stop making new threads. I merged three of the ones you created about overclocking into one, and I'm going to go merge some of your other ones as well.
