Currently in the process of overclocking my GPU thanks to this thread and so far I'm up from 702 MHz to 972 MHz on the Memory clock and still no sign of any adverse affects.......is that normal? I'm a bit worried that I'm gonna damage something as ever so slightly neurotic about stuff like this.

I'm running 3DMark 06 every time I increase the clock speed and currently I'm up from 4369 to 4633....which is nice, but obviously I don't want to push my luck.

The only slight stutter I get is as the balloon passes for the first time in Canyon Flight. Should that be enough for me to stop upping the MHz?

Check the temps. Keep them under 80C for the GPU . IF your system can handle that OCing and stay under 80C it`s perfectly normal and you`re a lucky guy :D

You probably have GDDR3 with that GPU because the stock clock is ~700 for GDDR3 and ~400 for the DDR2 versions of the 8600M GT. GDDR3 is able to run at higher (sometimes insane) clockspeeds.

    80C stressed
You can't hurt your video card because you edit the volts.
And what you are see is just fine. Got mine a 640 core/1280 shader/540 memory

80? Thats pretty low. Your card is fine up to the 90s. Once it reaches the 100 mark then you, should probably reduce clocks. Your card will be fine to temps of 110-120 degree and probably will clock itself down to prevent damage then anyways.

Anything above 80 is a bit of a concern. But yes, you could even go as high as 90-100 C without problems. But I don`t think you wanna boil eggs on your laptop.

    Cheers for your replies....I've finally stumped with 640/1280/972...with a 3DMark of 5707.....

I can't change the resolution on my basic version of 3DMark 06....I realise that therefore my result isn't a fair result but for little ol' me its enough....

How much would testing at 1280x1024 reduce the result by?
