Okay well, recently I decide to try and overclock the GPU in my sig, well rather the compute in my sig, and I installed the coolbits program. I went to the clock freqencies tab, and I did the detect optimal freqencies thing, and it came out with a Core Clock of 529 MHZ and a Memory clock of 863 MHZ. My question is, are these safe to use. Before the Memory clock was 700 MHZ, and the Core Clock 400 MHZ.

Maybe, maybe not. Give it a try, if it artifacts or crashes, lower it a bit. You can also try a program called ATITool, it works for nVidia cards as well.

As dragonrage has said, you should try it out for a bit, and see if you can game on it properly and with stability. If not, then lower the clocks. Also, watch out for heat. Notebooks aren't known for their cooling properties.

Well, I ran 3DMark 05, and y score went from 1504 T0 1644. It crashed, but becasue of a Directx error, it wasn't the card. I tried prey as well, and now I can play it at 1024X768 instead of 800x600. Going to try boosting it up a little.

Don't just set the clocks to 529:863 and apply it, that's how to crash your machine. Go in 5-10 (10 would probably be safe) intervals, apply, and run a game or 3DMark program to make sure everything is stable.

Yes I know that, but I clicked the thing that said Detect Optimal Frequencies, and it set it at 529:863. I did it even more, and I got it stabiliy at 551:902, this increased 3DMark from 1644 TO 1667, anymore and it crashes. And I have another question, if I take it out of the AC Outlet, will powermizer kick in and take the clocks down to Maximus Battery Power like I have it set to, or will it just leave as is. Because when I tried taking it out of AC, it left the clocks as is, and I was thinking Powermizer downclocks the card. I have the settings at manual overclock, even when I put it to auto overclock it still didn't bring down the clock speed. And one more question, what is the difference between Manual and Auto overclock? Thank you everybody.

Well there is some artifacting,I'm thinking of just putting it back to normal. There is no real gain anyway.

Do you guys think it is worth it, I mean I only see like a 2-3 FPS increase. The only real difference I can see is in Prey, which I can play at 1024x768. Other than that, everything plays the same.

If your only getting a slight increase in speed, then I would lower the clocks back down. It stresses the card out, and can reduce life.

Well I got it up to 1700 3DMarks in 3DMark 05 from the stock of 1504. I am noticing some performance increases, but it seems my windows desktop is slower. And what do you mean that it reduces the life. I am using Riva Tuner now.

How did you determine that overclocking the video card makes your Windows desktop slower? I doubt that is the case. I notice no difference in general non-3D tasks with a stock or overclocked video card. There is probably something else affecting your system - perhaps it has been running too long; a fresh restart always helps.

Yeah, maybe, because I was messing with Riva Tuner, and I restarted the syste, because it said to, and now it is faster. Maybe this is what it was, because I see nothing else that could be affecting it. I always run Disk Defrag, Antispy, and Antivirus. And does anyone know , in Rivatuner, what the settings for amount of PCI Textures does. I set it to 512, just to see what it would do, and it seems to boost performance, not sure though.
