    Hello, I have a Samsung Series 7 Gamer Laptop with a Radeon HD 7870M GPU. The laptop has excellent cooling and I feel like the 7870 would overclock very well if given the opportunity. I've been searching for some information on this, but Google seems to come up short. I've tried using MSI Afterburner and AMD Overdrive but afterburner does not show the clocks or allow you to adjust them and Overdrive crashes my laptop. Is the BIOS preventing the overclock and can anything be done about it? Any info would be greatly appreciated! :)

    Same with my 7670M, the reason why you cant OC those cards is because lower end cards(sub-7900M's) have the GPU customized by the manufacturer and usually have been locked down to prevent any sort of change in terms of core clock, memory clock etc. Sometimes you would even need to get the display driver directly from the manufacturer as the standard AMD drivers are not supported.

    Try setting
    UnofficialOverclockingMode = 2
    in MSIAfterburner.cfg

    Overclocking should work, but you will loose Enduro and PowerPlay capabilities of the card.

    did you try open another app such as kombustor to activate the gpu first before open afterburner?
