Using the stock drivers of on my Toshiba Qosmio F55 and with the help of an Intel Extreme X9100 running @ the stock 3.06GHz and the 9700M GTS overclocked @ 690Mhz/1050MHz/1850MHz I was able to breach the 10,000 barrier in 3DMark2006 :D It may not be in the default resolution but it is still reaching 10K !!!! Looking at the SM 2.0 and SM 3.0 cores you can see that the 9700M GTS overclocked can get to the same level as a *Stock* 9800M GTS and GT. I hope this helps anyone wanting to try to overclock this GPU. God Bless :)

wow I wish I had your laptop. how difficult was it to upgrade the cpu and where'd you get it? Also how stable are those clocks?

    Seconded.

I'm sorry, but the claim that an overclocked 9700 will be able to reach a stock 98 GTS or GT is simply false. Those shader scores will not be the same at higher resolutions, not to mention the X9100 pushing the card along even further. The 97 GTS is a very nice card, but it still falls short.

But still, 10000 is a very nice score. So long as it's 1280x800 non-standard resolution, a 10000 is a 10000, since if you're running on a 1280x800 screen, that's the resolution you care about.

That's quite a CPU as well - I'd like to have that CPU to speed things up a bit!

No doubt, very impressive. I'd just rather not mislead anyone into thinking that the card will equal its big brothers.

I was going to get an X9100, but Intel just announced the 35w T9800 @ 2.93Ghz that should be out by year's end.

I can swap out the CPU in about 5 minutes. Not that hard taking the laptop apart. I will be honest with you that the clocks that I have overclocked it with are probably pushing the 9700M GTS right at its limits and is probably not that stable, I just wanted to see if I can break the 10K barrier :D . I did take temperature readings using GPU-Z and the highest it got up was 85C degrees. I would say that with lower clocks of about 650/950/1800 or so, it would be more stable and probably score about 9000+. Once I get an external monitor I plan on trying the test again with the default resolution of 1280 x 1024. God Bless :)

You know Kevin, I wonder if there is a possibility that the 9700M GTS actually started out as a 9800M GTS or even a GT but were the defective ones that did not quite make the standards like; instead of having the full 96 or 64 shaders, tested lower, so then they just disabled it to be 48 shaders, either software-wise or even mechanically on the die itself. I mean AMD does this with their Quad-Core CPU's by selling the ones that do not make it as a full quad-core as a tri-core. I mean it beats wasting money and scrapping good cores. Just my thoughts. God Bless :)

Nope. You are the proud owner of a bona fide, brand new G94 card.
