    My unit has the i7-3820QM and Radeon HD 7970M. I have been toying with MSI Afterburner for the GPU but these switchable graphics are a nightmare and the OC doesn't seem to hold on reboot.

    Is there an option to better OC these components with this locked down BIOS?

    First off, make sure you are using MSI AB 2.2.1.

    What you want to do is open your notepad as Administrator. File < Open < Program Files(x86) < MSI Afterburner < (Change your search to "All Files" and you should see a CFG file named "MSIAfterBurner."
    Select that file and your Notepad should open it up.

    Scroll down until you see this:
    UnofficialOverclockingEULA = 0
    UnofficialOverclockingMode = 0

    All you want to do it change the 0's to 1's.
    Then File < Save, and exit.
    Start up a game, then open After Burner. You should be able to use your core clock and memory clock. :]

    Also note that you can only overclock when you are using the GPU. (Having a game open or something)
    If you open up afterburner and you don't have anything running, you won't be able to use it.

    I did what you said already, and the OC still reverts at boot.

    On a separate note, what are my options for a CPU OC on this machine?

    If you want the GPU OC to stick, flash it with the current stocks, there are several ways to do this... just stick with the manual overclocking

    regarding the CPU OC, very simple, it should be done via the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU), I think it's THIS one

    You could always save your current OC into one of the slots at the bottom of the program by right click on them.
    Once youre satisifed with your OC, check the box that says Apply Overclocking at System Startup.
