I want to overclock my studio 15 laptop gpu.
Its a 256mb ati radeon mobility hd 3450
it runs at 500mhz/500mhz. the memory speed is suppose to be 700mhz, but dell caped it at 500mhz.
Anybody sucessfully overclock this gpu or better yet overclock the dell studio 15.

Thanks guys for the replies, they are indeed apreciated.

Crash thanks anyways but that doesnt seem to work for me. I beleive "bigmadman" was able to do it but hes not responding. Sorry for posting this thread, I didnt see the other one.
Iam just pissed off that dell jipped me by 200mhz of memory speed.

Will i would have notice any fps gains from going from 500mhz to 700mhz memory speed? THANKS

OKay i installed powerstripper, it lets me overclock the memory and core. I rather have ati tools because it shows the artifacts.

    Few Questions that are imperative,
If i overclock the memory from 500 to 700 will I notice any fps boost. If so aproximetally how many.
    2. How the heck do i use the artifact and tell if its stable. (I ran find max core and memory, they both goe maxed out, but I have a bad feeling about maxing both of them out.)
The hottest I ever seen my mobiltiy 3450 was at 79 C.

    Best regards
    MIke

Be careful, 200 MHz on the memory is a pretty large overclock. I know many sites state that my 9500m GS should be at 700 MHz, but it was their mistake because they got the memory type wrong. IMHO it would be best to get a screen shot of a GPU-z (really easy to dl and run) output to make sure that you have GDDR3 memory before pushing your memory clock to 700 MHz.

I gonna gradually get it up there maybe 600 mhz. No it DDR2. So is that worse. Anyway the main point is will i notice a big performance improvement.
THanks Dire NTRophy for the response.

IF you can overclock that high, you'd notice a pretty decent fps boost, but I seriously doubt you'd be able to overclock that much; that's quite a bit.

How high does ATI Tool report the max clocks?

Yes, you will notice an improvement from overclocking, though probably only a few fps in your case since your card isn't very powerful to begin with and you can't add extra cooling as with desktops. If you're really in to it, you can get a laptop cooler to help keep your temperatures down. This allows for a higher stable overclock and keeps your components from wearing out as quickly.

If its DDR2, I would think that 500 MHz is the correct clock, since 700 MHz is usually seen in GDDR3 GPU's (I could be wrong, but this is what I've noticed).

Clocking it 200 MHz above could be pushing the limit... I can only overclock my memory by 65 before it becomes unstable.

What about studio's17 gpu how much can i overclock?...it's the same DDR-2 memory as 3450 but it has 128-bit bus.

700Mhz is found in DDR3 GPUs, 500MHz for DDR2 GPUs.

And be careful when overclocking, look for guides and learn about the risks before starting, dont jump it straight to 700MHz.

Okay also when i hit max mem and max gpu it fully maxes out the core and memory to both 750 with no artifacts. Can someone post a guide on how to use ati tools overclocking or if anyone has any expirenece overclocking this card or a similar one.

increase in small increments, test for heat and artifacts between each increase. keep it safe.

Okay when i hit set default clock it sets me core speed 54.84 and memory speed to 202.50.
Let me just put a pic.

RIght now Iam scanning for artifacts. It says no from a 10 mhz increase. How do i apply the settings.

And what exactly is an artifiact.

    Thank you

il be amazed if youve just added 50% more power to your card with no ill effects. i can see that thing cooking within 2 months. bye bye laptop...
have you cycled something like 3dmark06 for 4 hours yet? thats the most common way of checking for complete stability. (i think :p)
