Same drivers in both XP and Vista (169.04) and same computer (dual boot, specs in sig). When I overclock my 8400M GS to 500/700 in Vista, it is fine, very stable, no crashes. Overclock to the same speeds in XP, and the screen shuts off after about 2 minutes of watching the hairy cube in ATItool and my lappie is unresponsive. I have to force a shut down by holding down the power button. The temperatures are even the same in both OS's, they never go higher than 90 C, and yet it crashes in XP--Anybody know why?? or know of stabler drivers in XP that can be overclocked?

That's bizarre. It must be a driver issue. Try different drivers in XP, the newer 169.2x drivers are getting good feedback around here.

    169.28

it may be that the 169.04 driver is more stable in vista than xp for your setup.

most drivers are friendly to both operating systems at this point but with laptops and beta drivers its possible you could have a miss...

Thanks for the replies so far. I tried 169.28 with no success, even with stock clocks, temperatures were skyrocketing very quickly in the hairy cube test. I'm going to try out the official Dell drivers just for the heck of it and see what they can overclock to in XP.
