It should be safe if you do it correctly. You could use ATiTools to overclock your x1400. However, overclocking can reduce the life of your x1400 as well as reduce the amount of battery life you would get.

You would probably be ok by overclocking very little like say 10mhz but that wouldn't give you much performance boost....... it just depends.....if you have it cooled(i have my laptop on a stand and a small fan underneath..with that i can overclock but as soon as you get away from that ventilation your system will heat very quickly....i dont mean to scare you...most likely it would be ok but if ur like me you would like to be safe then destroy a $1000 laptop........ :)

Video cards that are on the budget end of things, such as the X1400, don't even get a big performance boost from over clocking, so in general it's not worth it to overclock unless you have a Nvidia GO 7600/ Ati X1600 and up.

My saying is always, "if you have to ask, don't do it". Have someone else show you before you attempt it.

I overclocked my X1400 to 560/430 (with ATiTool) and I am running it with these settings for a month now with no problems. The results are great an a extra 5 fps...and btw if ur graphics card gets too hot dont worry, ATI overdrive will downclock the drive automatically..

Yeah, i overclocked to 560/450, and i had I8kfanGUI runnig, and my computer never got above 40 degrees C. EVEN WHILE PLAYING GAMES!!!! I used PowerStrip though, you may have different results with ATiTray Tools. But now with Vista, and new drivers.... I cant overclock as much, and i dont even do it anymore because i dont need to.... yet.
