Do you guys use a notebook cooler when overlocking your mobility cards, i have a 4650 mobility and want to overlock it to stock speeds, so get that better performance.

    Im using a zalman cooler.

I don't use a notebook cooler at all, and my temps are fine. Only because I my GPU seems to hardly ever get hot though...

If you already have high load temps though, use the cooler.

I used to have a zalman 17inch cooler for my previous hp hdx 16. Chances are you will need to use one if you are planning on overclocking as I did. You can check your temps before and after, if you are lucky and have a laptop that has good cooling you may not have to.

Depends on the cards, i'm not that experienced with ati. I can tell you that if your cards never get above 75-80 you are in great shape, mobile cards are supposed to take pretty high temp, in some cases up to 90-100, but staying at that level would surely shorten the life of the gpu and possible damage other components. With the zalman my gpu would never go above 65.

What do you mean by cooling equipment, like heat sinks? Why don't you just use your cooling pad? it should be more than adequate...

Those temps are perfectly fine. However you need to see how hot your system get when under stress. Run some benchmarks or play some games and see what the temps max out at

I had fun taking my HD 4650 from 550/500 to 760/625. However my notebook was designed for the hotter 9600M GT so it can handle the increased heat.

MSI afterburner and then I flash the bios to fix the clocks so I dont have to run it.

You can unlock non CCC overdrive cards by editing a file.

I used the bios program to raise the core voltage.

I use a Zalman Cooler, though it's not really necessary.

Even overclocked to stock 9700m GT and an undervolt to 0.89V, my temps WITHOUT the Zalman are within 75 degrees C (under full load).
With the Zalman active, they are within 65 degrees C (under load).

So I can either use the cooler or not ... it's fine either way since my temps are nowhere near critical.
