    Hi,

I've recently stumbled on a very annoying problem since I've started to watch blu ray on my laptop. Basically any graphics drivers I install with a modded INF, blu ray does not run (Cyberlink PowerDVD). This is because using the modded INF breaks WHQL?
Using drivers that don't require a modded INF for my laptop. i.e. drivers released from Sony, do not allow me to overclock! :( .

Is there any solution to let me watch blu ray AND overclock or will I be stuck in this annoying circle forever?

    Regards, Jam.

i dont belive so. the makers of blu ray wanted everything to be controlled so those will need to be whql signed.

its the same reason why they came out with hdmi. thay wanted to control all aspects of the interface even though component could do 1080p if allowed.

Have you tried installing the mobile drivers provided by nvidia?

Yes. I assume you mean the ones Sony provide? The drivers that contain Sony's INFs allow me to play bluray, however I can't overclock. Drivers which I download that need to have a 'modded INF' let me overclock but I can't play bluray.......since I understand that once you've modded the inf (from laptopvideo2go) then those drivers are no longer WHQL signed.

    Uhm, Storm?
Basically, you've got either Blu-Ray playback or overclocking. Choose one.

    Not really either-or.

    http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

Browse the filesystem of your Blu-Ray and locate the largest file, that should be the movie. Drag and drop into that media player and it will play Blu-Rays, and it supports DXVA as well for qualified video cards.

Ah. Wouldn't this be that same for all other systems which have blu ray capabalilty then? i.e. either have blu ray playback or overclocking capabaility at any one time.

I've tried this however the media player brings the error message "Cannot render file".

You need a codec pack to decode H.264 ;) Try Core AVC.

Allows blu ray playback but NOT overclocking capability. Seems that I'll only ever have one or the other depending on the driver installed.
EDIT: What do you actually mean by "using the sony inf". I presume you just mean drivers on the forum labelled with "Sony"? I.E. 167.60?

On second thoughts, think I'll address this issue in the Sony forums since I can't find a driver newer than 167.60 specifically for Sony models.

    *sheepish grin*

What? Apple *technically* supports these drivers for Windows, but Vaio does not? Nor Dell? CRAZYNESS!

Hm? I've definitely heard of people using that to play Blu-Rays, you're sure you tried the Home Cinema edition?

From the blu ray disc I have, all the stream files are in the format MPEG2-TS format. And the player can only work with H.264. Hmmm.

About my initial problem, I've found my answer. My FZ, or any other laptop containing the 8600GS, seems to be BIOS-Locked meaning I can't OC with drivers newer than 169.04. I've tried a few drivers since and found that I can both play Blu Ray and OC with my stock drivers. Obviously these drivers are pretty old (101.28) and therefore don't perform as well as newer drivers at stock clocks. Currently I'm trying to make 167.43 drivers (sony INF) work since these apparently allow overclocking but the default INF doesn't install  .

I believe the .mts files are the ones that play if you drag and drop to MPC-HC, users over at another site I'm on got it to play that way.
