    IM BACK!
Hahaha I might have a bad reputation from... exactly a year ago (Stopped at 888 Posts FAV.# !) :D

I bought my P-6831FX on the 27th of Feb. last year and all I can say is "OMFGBBQ!"

So today I decide to overclock my 8800m GTS (181.22 DOX Custom Drivers) because it definitely needs it :p

So I just upped the CORE to 650MHz and Mem to 1000MHz in nTune
BOOM! MAX TEMP 70C Crysis Warhead Custom Intensive Play, BEFORE 3DMARK06: 6655 | AFTER 3DMARKS: ~7000
    No problems :]

So my questions are as following:
-How much further do I go?
    -Do I need other drivers?
-What scores/temps/OC do you guys get?
    -Any other recomendations?

Well just up the core clock even more, I think your memory is at max though. Keep an eye on the temps and do run an ATI tool stress test or any other stress test to assure the overclock is safe from Deltas.

Then just go ahead and run Crysis for a few hours, that should do it.

    What are Deltas?

Anybody know how far the 8800m GTS can go? Specifically anybody with the same laptop?

I am completely confused... nTune monitoring only show 383/300 now no matter what I set it at but the system tells me its whatever I set it to

Rivatuner is only going up to 575/1150/455 !??!
Hardware monitoring in RT only show CORE: 621 SHADER: 1242 MEM: 100

EDIT: I rebooted and everything went back to normal, RT still has those limits
I kept upping the CORE & MEM as I played Crysis @ 1280*800 in a Window with nTune on my second screen with NVMonitor and reached CORE: 702MHz MEM: 1106MHz (How come nVidia doesnt let you OC shaders?)
When I overclock too much the Drivers fail and restart, but then I notice my CORE:275 and MEM:300 ! ! !
How do I overclock again WITHOUT rebooting vista?

Cool, once you install a t9300 or x7800 it will up your 3DMark 06 score to 10k like me and everyone else who has upgraded. And just try my clocks at 625 925 1550.

I don't think that you can get 10k but 9k is posible if you upgrade to xCPU ;)

If I can afford it ill go for an X9000
Or ill go for a T9300 and then X9000 once they get cheaper
I barely have anything thats "extremely" CPU dependent... so im ok for now ;)

Once Crysis 2 or something like that comes around... ouuuch :]

What OC programs/monitors do you guys use?

And as I have already asked:

I kept upping the CORE & MEM as I played Crysis @ 1280*800 in a Window with nTune on my second screen with NVMonitor and reached CORE: 702MHz MEM: 1106MHz (How come nVidia doesnt let you OC shaders?)

i have a T9300 installed in my 6860 and see 3dmarks over 9000 with a mild overclock of 600/800/1500 (9800m gts stock clocks)

i use nvidia system tools with esa support for overclocking (make sure to install the performance program)

when the driver fails and restarts it sounds like its defaulting back to low end 3d graphics speed.

if you are talking about testing your overclock further without rebooting, just go back into the nvidia control panel and up your clocks a little at a time.

And the problem is that I cant go back and do that... its like its locked into Low End 3D Settings =/
    Rebooting is a pain

nvidia system tools is just like ntune, except nvidia hasn't updated ntune since september 2007.

go here if you want the latest version of nvidia system tools.

and i've never had my driver fail and get locked into low end 3d mode, so i dont know what to tell you about that.

    Thanks for the link!
    Hopefully I can OC shaders...
    Crysis heavily uses shadders

    700/1100
    Direct jump... no incremental lol
As long as temps are below 50 I should easily be able to jump by 25/50MHz steps right? and then tweak it with 5MHz steps...

I was at 850/1050 and just jumped and it locked and reboot into stuck Low End 3D

How stable is it at 700?

Uh I think you can. If you can OC it to 650 950 1650 and cool it with a good cooler and Get a X7800 and OC it to 3.0 then yes i think you can get 10k. Maybe with a X9100 on a 6860 or 6831 you can hit the 10k mark.

10k is a little easier to reach than that ROT, I have a t9300 and 8800m Gts running at 605/933/1512 and hit 10100... on the Dox 182.05 drivers..

Beatsiz, I normally feel everyone here errs on the ultra cautious side in overclocking...don't do x because you are going to fry your GpU Nonsense...but on this one...your overclocks are completely 'unhealthy" to say the least :)

Think from a preponderance of evidence the best functional OC's for the 8800 are about 650ish/1000ish/1600ish...

    Sorry I ment 750/1050

    Yeah I figure that I will stay in the 600-700 / 1000-1100 / 1500-1600 ranges ;)

I just think that im lucky that im not frying anything :D
I will watch out with my stepping etc...

I installed the system tools but when I click on it it just shows the control panel with nTune as usual

With DOX drivers and such I think it is possible man...

ROT, I am not going to go through the trouble of re downloading and installing 3mark to prove it to you, you will have to just take it on faith or not at all I really don't care :) I had just installed my new t9300 and was running some O/C stability tests on different driver sets and was surprised to see my 10k score, I hadnt used 3mark since I got this laptop a year ago and I was sub 9k with a t7250 and older drivers.

Anyway, I have seen people report a 10k score elsewhere in these forums on the same setup, its not exceedingly uncommon.

X9000 maybe, but definitely not with an X9100 as it is not even compatible with the 6831/6860 chipset.

    OMG

    F*CK!!!

Driver keep setting back to LOW END 3D clocks

    this is ANNOYING AS HECK

    Always having to reboot

    ANYBODY KNOW WHATS THE MATTER!?

I am currently reinstalling the nVidia System Tools because I cant find them ANYWHERE on my computer after installing them

All I get is the same NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL with CORE and MEM OC
Im thinking about switching to something other than nVidia and RivaTuner

EDIT: RivaTuner FINALLY let me up the CORE and Shaders but only up to 621/1242 MAX, memory is still stuck at a measly 100MHz since I havent rebooted yet
nVidia says CORE 575MHz Mem 457MHz
    ?!?!?!
    UUUUGH!!!

Try not going to high of an OC. The only goood driver for OC that i can remember is the DOX 180.70 driver. Try that driver.

My GPU seems to never want to fry... always under 70C and 40C idle
I dont seem to be approaching critical temps...
And im definitely going to make sure to up the clocks in small steps

When I google imaged the nVidia System Tools it looked wayyy different...
But all I can say is nTune and nVidia System Tools are identical, asides the monitoring.

The clocks were fine and all until I loaded crysis, lvl4 was loading, last 99% screen goes black and clocks are set to Low End 3D

Now... HOW do I OC again WITHOUT rebooting?!

Why does RivaTuner only let me go 575/1150/455
    455 Mem !? What The Heck !?

I cant OC shaders with nVidia System Tools (EXCATLY LIKE NTUNE I SWEAR)
I cant OC over 455 MEM 1150 SHADERS 575 CORE in RivaTuner

Newest System Tools 6.03 allows shader overclock separately. That´s what I use for my 8800m GTX SLI.

I read somewhere that certain DOX drivers have this issue of downclocking the gpu during overclock, there is a certain driver in the series that does not have this problem but i couldnt tell you which one, but most likely its the drivers that are doing this.
