    Hey guys!

I received my RJtech 680m, and fitted it in my P170HM3 (replaced my 580m)

Works a treat!! well sort of.... as in it posted fine, and booted to windows, (no display drivers installed)

However when i install 304.79 drivers with a custom INF (from say laptopnut) which works fine for him and other members using a P170HM (non 3d 120hz), but for me it does not (as i have 120hz?)

It installs fine, and boots to windows, however my laptop screen is blank...now an external display works fine! I tested the card and it is a absolote machine! (scored P6079 3d mark 11 no oc compared to 3700 on my 580m) but its just a pain obviously having to run on an external display...

Now i know this 680m is not supported in the HM series, and what not, and i took a gamble, but I was wondering if anyone has any clues/ideas that might help me get the internal display to work again?

My 680m Hardware ID according to device manager is:

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&CC_0300

Any help is much appriciated guys!!

    Thanks!

The rate at which your monitor refreshes shouldn't affect your video card in any way. Are you sure that there's nothing wrong with the monitor on the notebook itself? Also try from the external monitor duplicating the screen or showing the screen on only your notebook screen and see what happens then.

    Thanks for the response!

Theres nothing wrong with the internal itself, as the internal screen displays fine on post, in bios and in windows with no nvidia drivers installed (i can even do 1080p with standard display drivers) however once display drivers are installed, it remains blank.

Also, using the FN keys to enable/disable/switch displays does nothing, nothing is heard or seen when doing this.

    Thanks :)

have you tried running the screen at 60hz, instead of 120hz?

    Hey aduy

How do i do that? Once the drivers installed and it reboots the laptop does not detect an internal display anymore, even in the settings, it only sees my external display

Right click screen resolution, advance settings, monitor then set the refresh rate to 60hz, at the same time go back to the first screen and set the Display to the internal and see if that works.

thanks city, I cant change anything to do with internal LCD screen, as there is no internal display period anywhere in the settings with drivers installed, only my external display shows up, it acts as if there is no internal display connected. Everything works fine when no drivers are installed, and the resolution then of the display is 800x600 60hz.

Have tried clean installs and multiple driver sets with modded inf files, all to which install fine, but the display remains blank. It looks like the 680m does not work with the P170HM3...

Have you tried installing official notebook drivers from Nvidia's download website (the ones that don't need a modded inf)?
Your problem might be rooted in the modified inf drivers that don't mesh too well with your laptop and 680m.

Depending on how bad you want to try to get it to work, you can PM me and we can mess with the BIOS to get it going.

I have an INF file for you that might work. It worked for several people who have Clevo 680M inside the P170HM

MSG me if you want to try

Thanks guys for the responses, unfortunatly nothing seems to work, it seems without a bios update, the P170HM3 will not work with the 680m

The reason why a modified inf is needed is due to the official Drivers lacking entries for the hardware ID.

An unknown id is created due to the Bios not reconising the GPU causing the first four digits to be zero's. When you mod the inf it will not cause problems because all you are doing is replacing an existing ID for the same card with your one. If you were adding a new GPU by replacing a similar one of a different model then that would be different and could cause problems.

Yes it's basically a pointer if you have ever done any programming, you are just correcting one that has got messed up.

You can mod Desktop Drivers and make it use the GTX 670 profiles but the problem is due to 3D since the 680M works fine on the P170HM. I already tested what you just described on mine and it worked fine though.

I can mod the inf file for you, but if you already tried it with LaptopNut help I doubt it will work.
Shoot me a line in case.

i think you would need to wait until clevo comes out with a laptop that has 3d, then snag the vbios from that and load it onto your gpu.

Thanks Kingpinzero, but id only be wasting your time, im hell bent on believing its a Bios / 3D issue (would love to be proven wrong though hehe)

    I appriciate the offer though!

Good point!, but at the moment im thinking about selling the card, but I may just hang onto it just in case theres light at the end of the tunnel

Looks like 7970M + HM and 680M + EM are the best combos.

I altered the required modules and send him the first test bios a few days back, but I guess he is afraid to flash it. ;)

...I flashed the same stuff on my system back then and it won't brick, so give it try man. I included a backup in case windows crashes.
The GPU will be handled by the OS just as if it is a regular P170HM in the first test BIOS...3D is still missing its license, but I am working on that once I am back at my own machine next month.

If this doesn't work then we can fake a P170EM behavior ...which I also did on my own system before. :p
