Seems similar to a 1070 Max-Q. Also you should probably improve cooling, average temp of 85C is quite high.

This is brand new paste and pads though
What would be the best way to get cooler temps? Is it worth it?

Average of 85C in a short test with breaks like Fire Strike is really high. It means max temp was most likely at thermal throttle temp (91C on Pascal). My average in FS is 54C with my GPU overclocked, and I max out at about 78C in games.

Aside from general recommendations like using good thermal paste and elevating the laptop, I can't give specific advice for your particular model. Maybe other 8770W owners can chime in.

Okay, i put on some good thermal pads and paste when i upgraded. Ill look into cooling options, right now its idle at 45C. Is that good?

85C is insanely high for just a FS run. You will reach TJmax easily after 15min of intensive GPU game or task and the GPU will shut down to prevent damage. But it would get damage in any way if you keep using it this way as the other element will run even hotter than the die.
How thick are your thermal pads and which elements have you covered? Which thermal compound have you used?

Pads are 1.5mm thick and the paste is Arctic MX-5

Most probably you would need liquid metal even with four heatpipes config

Hey mirage_bg I had a question for you, where did you get the additional heat pipes from in your 8770w mod here (where they from another laptop?) , just wondering because I wanted to do the same thing. Thank you for any help.
