Seconded. I think everyone should play Portal, and Half Life 2 is a classic by itself. And for multiplayer, Team Fortress 2 is pretty addicting.

Kane and Lynch was horrible. I would say Oblivion GOTY, Call of Duty 2 (amazing story), UT3, Orange Box, and Bioshock.

Yeah, heard so many bad things about Kane and Lynch. And the whole thing about the Gamespot reviewer getting fired because he criticized the game... Anyways, get the Orange Box, C&C 3, World in Conflict, Age of Empires 3, and GRAW2.

Oblivion GOTY is a must (on 1280res you can play it with everything max)....Age of Empires 3 is rather good and fun. Whenever Ass ass Creed comes out, it should be a good time killer.

Well BS Area 51, as I like to call it :)D) ran pretty nice, since it was built on the Unreal 3 engine(just as Bioshock and Timeshift and apparently Assasin`s creed(?) ) So 1280x800,med/high settings, over 30 fps ,averaging 25.

Have you played Prostreet or Most Wanted? You stated that you played NFS Carbon.

Other than that The Orange Box is probably the best value out there and you could still play CoD4 multiplayer forever...

Is C&C 3 any good? I kind of lost hope after EA bought Westwood... EA versions of C&C can't compare to Westwood's

I've played Most Wanted. I liked it but I'm not really into those. But I might be getting Pro street, sometime

again, thanks everyone, great list. Feel free to add any other games you'd recommend (not necessarily new ones)

Its amazing... it uses the same old Red Alert style; games are typically under an hour with fighting starting up quickly. The graphics are beautiful and not at all demanding. My GPU with 64MB of discrete memory can run it with everything at maximum and anti-aliasing and shadows off. This game doesn't disappoint.

I found blacksite to be somewhat disappointing. 1: Even though I'm no fan of the war in Iraq AT ALL, I found the snide injections of anti-war propaganda a little too much even for me, 2: the graphics were no better than UT3, yet I got lower fps constantly than I get on ut3, and 3: It was short and the ending was lackluster.

Bioshock was awesome, even though I never finnished it. I actually found the game scary in the beginning.

I hope they make alot of UT3 based games, I think the graphics engine has ALOT of potential. Infact I find it more visually pleasing than crysis, plus it's much more practical, as in my computer can run it comfortably.

I second dawn of war, pretty much the most fun strategy game I've played since starcraft :)... and maybe warhammer 40,000 iteself, hehe...not.

somehow Oblivion didn't satisfy me at all...closing all the portals one by one kinda got boring (oops...*spoiler* you close portals)....I ended up running it and healing myself and avoid as much enemies as possible.

but other than that.... bioshock , World in conflict , CnC3 , UT3 are all pretty epic games.

STARCRAFT2 BETTER BE AS GOOD AS THE RTS MENTIONED ABOVE COS RIGHT NOW IT'S LOOKING PRETTY GREY.

Oblivion wasn't about the main quest. It's about all of the amazing side quests. I didn't even waste time I the main quest till I was around Level 30.

They are specifically designed to be short as it's part of Valve's experimentation with episodic gaming. This implies smaller, cheaper games that are shorter and released more frequently.

I found HL2 to be disappointing in general. I abandoned it shortly after the antlion spore bit in favour of Day Of Defeat:Source.

Combat, great, graphics, great ... but I just thought "why am I playing this?". After the astounding intro, I just felt like you were pretty much ploughing through the game in straight line to get to some person who will point you in one direction, when you get to another person who points you in another...

I prefer my gameage a bit more cinematic.

Can anyone reccomend a good RTS? I see Command and Conquer 3 and Warhammer mentioned, but they are too futuristic for my tastes. I'm looking for a game where you could start in an old age, but end up in the current age or futuristic age. I imagine a game like that is hard to find in 2008.

Also, I hear COD4 is great but I cannot get into it as the gameplay just isn't my style. I like Day of Defeat and I play a little UT3 so that is what I'm used to. Also I played BF2 and FEAR. Back on topic, is the multiplayer of COD4 really great? I hear it is, but I would like more opinions on it.
