i was just wondering what kind of graphics am i gonna get with the 8800m i mean can you compare it against a console, for example are they better then PS1 (god i hope so) or PS2, or even PS3 i just dont know what to expect ive never played any real PC game as my comp was for college purposes ONLY so what should i expect?

LOL
...Its will definitely be better than PS1 and 2...haha, I havnt had too many experiences with the PS3 so I am not sure.

Well then it'll definitely be better than a PS3 on standard TV
-
Better than PS2, but I havent seen any PS3 games so cant comment on that.
PC games in general have better graphics than consoles, bot ofc you have to pay more to get the gear for it.
Having said the i think the graphics-gap has narrowed recently. -
A good PC or laptop will beat a PS3 in terms of graphics. The PS3's GPU is based on early Nvidia 8-series technology. An 8800 GTX will beat it in terms of power. PC's have always been more powerful than consoles. My old Pentium 4 with a 9600 Pro had better imagequality then my PS2.
Well, and of course you're PC can do more then just game so its more useful then a console. I Basically own a PS2 just to play Metal Gear Solid on it. -
It will most likely own anything you throw at, considering that you can't get a better card in a laptop. At the moment I would say it would be comparably to any PS3/XBOX 360 game.
cool this is my 300th post.. -
BTW, when does HD start? My XPS M170 could run most games on 1680*1050 and my desktops screen has a res of 1440*900. Isn't that already considered HD?
-
-
HD starts at 720p...which is...1280×720 (courtesy to wiki
) so yeah PC users have had HD for years...lol. Full HD is 1920x1050 i think...
EDIT: dmacfour got there before me -
yeah I would consider any monitor with a 1280x1024 resolution HD and with a few extra pixels.
-
Lol, we had HD years before the consoles. PC/Laptop FTW!
Though personally I don't really care about HD. I never really saw the point in owning a HDTV or something like a blu-ray player or HD-DVD player. Maybe at some point in the future I will buy a PS3, but mostly for the games. Not for the HD. Prolly hook it up to my old bedroom TV-set. -
Watching HD sports on a 72 inch TV (not mine
) is truly amazing...*drools*
-
I don't really watch a lot of TV. Don't have the time for it really. A regular day for me is more like coming home from work, eat, watch some (recorded) Law & Order and fire up my PC for some gaming.
I'll wait till HD becomes more mainstream and by that time it'll be more affordable. -
ever played WoW on a 60 inch?
-
Lol. No. I'm sure its great but I'll stick with what I got for now. I'm happy with what I got.
My TV is just fine. When it keels over I'll go look for something nice. -
My living room isn't large enough for such a huge TV.
-
Consoles are just so much easier to use and there is a lot less to worry about in terms of drivers and crashing etc, thats why I prefer my xbox 360 over my XPS M1730 but I only want a gaming pc because of the games I cant get on xbox, like counter strike, and games like team fortress 2 which play way better on pc. The pc will get you better graphics but a console will get you more consistent gameplay along with graphics which are fairly competetive against pc graphics
-
I've seen X-Box 360's BSOD.
. But I understand your point.
I just prefer my PC above my console. I play a lot of shooters and mouse/keyboard just pwns controller. -
i find it weird that my 8600m gt can run fear better than my 360 can. i like pc games because my pings are way better and i get less lag. also keyboard/mouse> controller. at least for fps.
-
Your 8600M GT is a better GPU then the XBox 360 has. FEAR is a little too demanding on the XBox so I read.
I never bothered with on-line play with consoles. I had a couple of experiences on a friends X-Box with Halo on-line. *sigh*. I never saw so many n00bs screaming, cursing and glitching/exploiting together. -

No computer can be PS3 + 42in TV

I think a good PC with a Dell 30" screen should be pretty impressive too.

The RSX graphics core of the PS3 is a GF7900 with half the ROPs and half the bandwidth. The RSX is nothing like the GF8.
They aren't the same architecture so 'better is pretty subjective', the GF8 is DX10.0, but the X360's Xenos chip is a hybrid of some DX9, some DX10 and some features ontop of that; there's certain Xenos only features that would make it better at certain things than the GF8600, but really when it comes to power they're pretty close thanks in part to the eDRAM that the Xenos has access to in the X360 which gives it low level free AA.
You can make your own conslusions abot whether you think a GF8600MGT is close to a crippled GF7900 (which would perform below a GF7900GS), but that would be an easier comparison. -
-
Only a purely hardware level, PCs will always be better for pushing pixels. However since developers have full control over a console and zero concern for backwards or future compatibility, they can get significantly more out of the console.
I normally think a good console game on a HDTV looks better than most PC games. With the console games you get the product exactly as the developer wants you to see it, and with most PC games, you are balancing different compromises with texture detail, AA levels, filter, bloom effects... Heck, in some games, playing with the video settings it pretty much a boss fight all by itself -

This is a laptop forum, have you never plugged you laptop into a projector, HDTV or other display?
C'mon console n00bz, plasmas and HDTV aren't just the realm of the console nor are controllers. Keyboards used to be PC only but even that changed if the PC n00bz haven't figured that out yet.
Seriously this thread is full of bogus info and misconceptions, but what would you expect from a PC vs Console thread I guess?
Main thing is to just play them and enjoy them, forget about the other stuff. -

You seem to also forget than many titles are either PC ports or Console ports so the benefits of both are often negated by this.
However when discussing abilities, there's pretty much nothing a PC can't do that a console can do, the there are many things a console can't do that a PC can do. This doesn't make A better than B or vice versa, they're just different. I own and play on and enjoy both, so I don't care about the BS f@nb0is. -

PS3 > X360.

My point never was: There is no way to use external devices to have a bigger image using a PC or laptop.
My point was: You have a big screen, you have to play from a specific distance so you have vision on the whole screen. If your screen is small (like laptops), then you play near it. Therefore, most of the aspect ratio is conserved. -
1920X1080
MY GOD DUDE 8800m gtx will tear up PS3 like a firecracker in a cow dump
PS3 honestly looks good right now... but... in 2-3 years I mean... Crysis will be how the standard graphics look like...
8600gt can play crysis on medium... which is as good as PS3 IMO
8800m gtx crysis on high = Total PWNING NOOBING -
Somebody pls stop this guy from hijacking every thread with "his" 8800M GTX.
8800M GTX is crap. Check out 8800 ULTRAS. For the love of God,we all know that some games look better on PCs than consoles... -
Its all about the games dudes.
Play on the platform that hosts your favorite games.
Now for me this means that I have a Gaming Laptop (known as an MBP) as well as an Xbox 360.
Between the PC market and the 360 market there are not many games I cannot play. I also purchased a Wii recently.
As far as I know, all of the games I want are available between those three platforms, when something really interesting comes out on PS3, maybe I'll consider getting one. As of now, either PS3 games are not being marketed aggressively enough, or everything is multi-platform anyway. -

Whatever aspect ratio or display device is available to a console is available to a PC, but not vice-versa.
Anywhoo, it's all about options, that PC and Console gaming exists is great, some people prefer one or the other, some people prefer both for different reasons. -

It all comes down to not being cut and dry and the sum of a bunch of variables, it's all about how you weigh those variables. -
Well I am just voicing my opinions

I did, but I don't understand either.
I play with my laptop from the couch on both my HDTV TV using a 12 ft HDMI cable and my projector (great for Oblivion), or the 2 Plasmas at work, all while using a wireless keyboard and either wired/wireless rollerball, or my wired/wirless controllers. So I am often many ft away from my laptop too.
Now I also play my consoles in the same way, however I did play both the NES, and PS ONE in my Van either on the way to or at the ski hill, on a 13" TV/VCR (which is smaller than any of my last 5 laptops).
So I still don't quite get those posts, nor how the aspect ratio is involved. -
Even the 8600m GT looks better than most of my 360 games....PC's are highly underrated....consoles rock for awsome exclusives though....I can't wait for Too Human
-
Gears of War was supposed to be an X-Box exclusive, so was Halo and Halo 2. All of whitch I can enjoy on my PC now. It just takes a little longer for some titles to make it from the consoles to the PC's. But eventually they make it, just because the developers get greedy...

P-6831 w/ 8800m GTS + 720p DLP Projector + Crysis on High/Very High DX10 =
It may run a little choppy, but boy is it pretty. The CPU Benchmark is crippling but amazing to look at. -
also I would like to say that it's all opinion here, but the 360 still has an assload of better games than the ps3, and the upcoming game of the year ( GTA4 ) will have exclusive downloadable content only available to the 360. -
.
-
Ultra HD is 2560X1650 I believe -
I mean come on... Bluray (50gb+) vs DVD (8gb max) and PS3 is generally better performing... and maybe we will even see custom stuff since "thank god" linux user on PS3 could create stuff and then just package it up as a normal PS3 recognizable file etc...
