So I'm going to say it. I see a lot of guys complaining about Crysis 2 not having DX11 and not looking as good as the first and blah blah blah
Seriously?
Crysis 2 > Crysis
Way better game. Way better utilization of the suit powers. Way better story.
And I'm finding this more and more about PC gamers. All they care about is what kind of graphics it has or how much it will push the specs of their machine.
I care more about the game. There's a reason I play mod'd versions of MVP Baseball instead of MLB 2k11. MVP is a better game with more depth.
I want games that are fun. I'm more than willing to sacrifice some graphics for good game play. Deus Ex is a prime example. Graphically, that game sucks now. But its still a blast to play. On the other hand, Invisible War is long gone and I have no desire to play it.

The use of suit powers is the only bit that improved. Other areas suffered a lot.
1) Areas are much smaller. Look at one of the first missions in Crysis, where you have to disable the communications or whatever (you have to go down a hill, and there's some guys in a boat who can shoot you, etc.). That area alone is much larger than anything you can see in Crysis 2.
2) Game doesn't feel as smooth. The input lag is unbearable for me, feels like I'm using a mouse to play something designed for a controller.
3) AI is crap. Simple as that. -
In my review and musings, I thought Crysis 2 was a failure in terms of trilogy and I do prefer the suit from the previous game. I also find Crysis 2 is far too easy and objects in the game are fixed. You can place a C4 on a wooden box and it'll survive better than a concrete wall vs my foot.
Crysis 2 did not just suffer from graphics.
And DA:O, most people think is better than DA2, even though DA2 has more responsive combat, flashy skills, exploding carcasses, but the story, quests, characters are all mediocre.
Also I think NBR gamers' issues with games isn't the graphics. Crysis 2 was an exception since CryTek claimed it would be the best graphics we've ever seen. That was a focal point of their marketing for the game. Personally I've read a lot of gripe on these forums for lack of good games. Graphics being used as substitute for bad gaming, 3-5 hour campaigns substitute by good graphics again, with annoying amounts of cut scenes and linear gameplay. Crysis 2 is not as bad as others that have been released. Crysis 2 has better than average campaign length, without excessive cut scenes, and decent gameplay. So yes I would agree, Crysis 2 is worth I'd say $25-30 once they fix the multiplayer. -
Im a pc gamer and i go for the game play first but i do like too have some nice graphics after that why did i buy my desktop for in my sig if i cant push it
Don't get me wrong crysis 2 graphics are pretty nice but its still no crysis 1 in graphics.
The levels also seem smaller too on crysis 2 like RandomDude said, Im ony on the 2nd part i think so i wouldn't know. Still have too play it more but so far it seems pretty good tho.
Still find it funny that a 2007 game is still beating today gamesAdd some graphics mods and it really blows them away.

Crysis 1 was DX9 with 64bit and DX10 support -- although it is debatable what exactly the differences where beside performance decreases between the two. Yet the sequel is only DX9? Graphically is inferior to its predecessor? Console port much?
Give me fewer choices/options, inferior quality, and a product geared to hardware that is from 2005.... and call it a sequel to one of the most talked about, benchmarked PC exclusive games of all-time. I think some have the right to be upset. Just a thought. -
Gameplay is much worse than Crysis 1. Crysis 2 just wants to be another Modern Warfare game, corridor shooter that is.
Graphics is worse than Crysis 1 and I agree the whole sandbox feel of the first game is much superior to this corridor shooter.
We´ll see if and when that DX11 patch gets released, however the game is already dead on boring, nothing in common with the first game at all except suit options. -
Crysis 1 is a much superior simulator compared to crysis 2, aswell crysis 1 IMO has better graphic sharpness, the model's are better proportioned then in the second game. Im a hardcore gamer so I do agree with the notion of games being about gameplay and not about graphics, but sometimes graphics can tie into either puzzles or other sorts of gameplay mechanics, take HL2 for example, Objects are a crucial part of the game's puzzles, if they weren't textured very well or were convincing they'd stick out and draw the players eye to that objects.
A great example of this is Ocarina of time on 3DS, its a nice refresh , holds true to the original layout of dungeons and so on, but refreshs the graphics so its a little more pleasing on the eyes.
Now when you talk about a game like crysis, the game is aiming to be a real life simulator, to be as convincing as possible. The most used sense when you play the game is your eyes, your ears are equally as important but lets say our blind, can you play these games? No, of course not. So visual accuracy is important. We are along way from having true to life graphics but we take baby steps each year.
I started out and have for most of my gaming career been a console gamer, but once you've tasted a bit of pc and compare, the low resolutions, the fuzzy textures, do tend to be destracting. I think crysis 2 on the other hand is a great looking console game, definitely maxing out what consoles are capable of, and thats fine. But when pc video cards come with more ram, can run games at higher resolutions, certain standards are set and when a game doesn't deliver then pc gamers feel like there dollar isn't worth the product. That said there are plenty of console exclusives that are great and do a good job looking good.
Now for Crysis 2, its a calling card for the cryengine 3, simply put. There are huge bug issues pc and console side and is more of a demo to show what you can do with a console, it lacks in player depth, gameplay, and compared to other pc games graphics. -
I want it all, great gameplay and great graphics. As far as I am concerned, graphics are just as important as gameplay because both play an important role in the immersion or suspension of disbelief.

^ This I agree.
It's more of an obsession of getting a perfect game for me -
I haven't played crysis 2 beyond the demo (which seemed like a clone of one of the last few COD games), but I played crysis 1 MP extensively and was a server admin. Crysis 1 had much more original multiplayer in terms of the prototype factories and the purchasing of weapons using money obtained within each round. However, from the standpoint of running a server it was in many ways a nightmare; with Punkbuster turned on the server would crash literally every day because of some stupid reasn (I don't remember it at this point), but without PB on there were absurd hackers flying across the map and shooting nukes out of guns. Also, it took crytek a few patches to get properly balanced vehicles/ combat, and with each patch it seemed like they made the game less balanced.
However, I would have preferred that they take risks making more original gameplay than just copying COD exactly and throwing in a cloak.
All that aside, I like the graphics to be pretty realistic, but I won't sit and watch the lightbeams in a multiplayer game. I value high resolution, some anti aliasing, and a high framerate. -
In any case Crysis 2 should be seen in the context and impact that the original Crysis caused: It is today a game benchmark because it could bring the best GPUs of its time to their knees, as well as delivering awesome graphics. -
HOWEVER it doesnt mean that we dont value gameplay, but the forum is simply not for "wow, best shooter evah" kind of posts. Most of us are playing games since 1989s you know. We do have some expectations for 2011, if you want random mumbling about how good are todays games you better look elsewhere.
p.s. not that i am an active poster in the community, just saying.
p.p.s. And yes, i do like crysis gameplay better. Not to mention that regardless of steady 40+ fps i feel some weird input lag in crysis 2.
I remember crysis 2 early start / tutorial, where voice from the speakers told me to press "D" for defensive ability of the suite. I was like "wut, D just make me strafe to the right forever". -
PC gamers are too obsessed with specs and graphics
