PC vs. Console Gaming

I just watched Sony's presentation at E3 2007 and must say I am impressed. A few titles that got me interested were MOH: Airborne, RE5 and GTA IV. Currently I have a 128mb X700 on a Asus V6VA and I was wondering how this compares to the new generation of consoles. Hopefully I will still be able to play these games on the X700 when they are released for the PC, if the system requirements are not too steep. If not then I was thinking about buying a PS3 solely for these three titles. Also how would say a mid-high end gaming laptop compare to the PS3? Or your general thoughts on PC vs. Console? Ive learned to stop chasing the latest and greatest, leaves dust bunnies in my wallet So Im not really up to speed on the latest hardware. Just wanted to hear some opinions, any would be appreciated.

lol... Your X700 will NOT be able to play some (or most) of the latest games. If you don't want to spend too much then you'll be better off buying a PS3 than building a pc since you don't need to keep upgrading your pc to keep up with the expensive world of pc gaming. But at the end it's all up to yourself. ie. personal choice.

 

All three of those games that made you excited about the PS3 are also coming out on the Xbox 360 where they will probably run better based on today's multiplatform releases. So what exactly is it about the more expensive PS3 that has you excited?

 

PS3 FTL!!! Xbox 360 FTW. The 360's GPU is a bit better than that of the PS3's, also the online gaming comunity is better too (with the exception of paying).

But that X700 of yours wont cut it in nex gen gaming. So far the closest to the 360's preformance is the Go 8600m GT.

 

The PS3 is the better machine...the problem is that no one has truly unlocked its potential. The 360 has been out for a longer time, so developers have a better grasp of the hardware. Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resident Evil 4, and Heavenly Sword are going to kick ass on the PS3.

 

Im not looking to run the latest games, regarding visual quality. Anyways I find most of the newer titles overhyped and I end up uninstalling within half an hour. Those specific games I listed are my favorites so as long as those work I'll be happy. Im hoping that I will be able to at least play RE5 and GTA IV on my current laptop, after all I was able to run San Andreas on just a wimpy GMA950. But if not I wanted to hear some thoughts from PS3 owners versus PC gaming.

What I like about the PS3 is the fact that its cheaper and more convenient than PC gaming. Just pop in a game and play, no troubleshooting with drivers, patches etc..

So far I havent looked up much on the Xbox 360 yet. Other than the reasons above probably the 1080p and integrated Blu-ray player.

 

I'll solve the problem for you: get a console.

Your computer will not be able to handle it. And if you want to play on PC, you'll need to buy a new computer. Even then, today's PCs won't run it well. If you buy a PS3, there's no upgrades, no worries about how it'll look, and like you said, no patches/drivers/other misc. things to download.

Problem Stated: You want to play new games, specifically GTA/RE/MoH.
Problem Integrated: You can't.
Solution(a): Buy a new computer.
Solution(b): Buy a console.
Consequence(a): You have no money left.
Consequence(b): You can't do things other consoles/PCs can
Conclusion: Solution(b) satisfies the stated problem.

 

the xbox can do 1080p. blu ray is nice.

if i were going to buy a console, i would get a ps3. apparently rockstar is having trouble fitting gta4 onto a dvd.

i think you might be a little out of luck trying to run gta4 on an x700. that doesn't sound possible in my mind. maybe you will be able to... low res and low settings... maybe...

obviously its impossible to say for certain, but rockstar probably isn't interested in PC scalability on their new game.

i think a new pc could safely handle gta4 when it becomes available. (disagree with above poster)

 

If I were you, I'd get myself a console now and start saving some money for a major pc upgrade around next spring/summer.
By then you should have enough money for a nice QuadCore system with all bells and whistles.

This way you'll get the best of both worlds.
