My laptop has a PCI-E Slot on the side. Can I use this to upgrade my graphics card and is this compatible with an Asus External Graphics card?
    My specs are as follows-

    Fujitsu Siemens Emprimo Mobile V5535
    2GB RAM
    1.74GHz Intel Celeron M.
    Sis Mirage 3 Graphics card.

It's likely it would work with the Asus External GPU, however it would still be weak, not something one would really want to game one, and it would be expensive (there was a post a little while ago it had a link to where it could be bought, search for it).

Evaders99 I don't see anything on the datasheet that would indicate you had an physical "PCI-E slot"

The internals may use PCI-E, but perhaps you mean the Express Card slot?

There is a slot on the side of the laptop below which reads PCIEX. This is what I'm refering to as the PCI-E slot. Is it one?

the slot on the laptop is known as an ExpressCard slot... its an upgraded PCMCIA spec that uses PCI Express.. its called ExpressCard so its not confused with a Desktop type PCIe slot... they are physically different. If its an Expresscard 54, you should be able to run any Expresscard 54 and 34 devices in it, and if its an Expresscard 34 sot you can run any Expresscard 34 device in it. the 54 is 54mm wide, and the 34 is 34mm wide, for 2 different sized cards.

Fujitsu is so far the ONLY company to have adopted ATIs XGP external GPU technology that actually allows for real performance improvements with an external GPU. I do believe that at this stage an external monitor is still required.

I'm not sure your model is supported though.

DO NOT GET THE ASUS EXTERNAL if you actually have an XGP capable laptop. Get the XGP solution instead. Otherwise you will be paying for crap when your laptop is capable of much much more performance through the proprietary XGP slot.

Thanks, if I do have an Express 54 slot can I just get any card which would fit or does it have to be a different one for laptops?

The XGP was updated with a driver last month that takes away the requirement of an external monitor by allowing you to use the notebook display.

Also, the slot on the side of your notebook is an ExpressCard slot, it operates at a 1x bandwidth, and supplies no where near the amount of power a gaming graphics card needs. Also, assuming the Asus XG station worked on your notebook, your CPU is still extremely weak and would bottleneck an IGP much less a dedicated video card.

you should be able to run any card that says it is an ExpressCard 54 or an ExpressCard 34 card, they will be labeled as such, or they wont work... it will be mainly just for laptops, as most desktops do not have these slots.

You cant use older type PCMCIA cards in those slots... older types are usually labeled PC Card, or Cardbus, or just PCMCIA.. they'll be listed as Type I and II and II and IV slots... it got pretty confusing. The newer ExpressCard slots are have better standards, and naming... so technically devices are supposed to be labeled exactly as ExpressCard 54 or ExpressCard 34 ...

checking on your V5535 laptop, it lists as having 1 slot for Expresscard 54/34 ... so you should be able to run any expresscard that is listed as a 54 or a 34.
