Dual SLI is by far the most powerful for gaming currently available, but is quite pricey.

This is true, but it should be noted that from what I have read, SLI seems to have compatibility issues as well for certain games. Just something to keep in mind. :)

this doesn't make any sence. SLI just runs off of two PCI express slots... they aren't different technologys.

i was thinking the same here.

does sli work differently on laptops. 1 video card takes 1 pci-e slot. 2 cards take up 2 pci-e slots and you can run them in sli if you chose so.

the answer to the question would depend on video cards. i had a sli set up of 2 7600gt's in my desktop and a single 8800gts wiped the floor with them - i've just switched to a gtx, btw.

PCI Express x16 = The slot where graphics cards are installed.

SLI/Crossfire = Technology by Nvidia/ATI that allows for two graphics cards to work together utilizing two PCI Express x16 slots.

A better question would be which is better PCIe vs AGP, or SLI vs Crossfire.

SLI cannot be compared to PCIe, as mentioned they are completely different.
