There's no problem with emulators of old hardware. Even the patent department and the US Department of Justice recently clarified that emulators or copies of video game hardware that isn't available through any reasonable means anymore is perfectly fine. In other words, my N64 emulator is legal while John Doe's PS3 emulator is illegal.

I've listed below what I think is the official site for the PS2 emulator. It has everything you want except the bios to make it run. It has a really good set up guide. The bios have to be "found" over the internet. I found mine through google (note: it won't just pop up. YOU HAVE TO SEARCH FOR IT!!!) When you get it working, it does work really well. I was playing Resident Evil 4 on my PC.

    http://www.pcsx2.net/

    Good luck

I do believe getting the PS2 BIOS is illegal (if you don;t own a ps2) ...
Best to not discuss it here.

Sorry, Daidojih is correct. Its been so long since I had gotten the bios off the internet that I forgot the "shady" places I searched in order to get it. It all turned out to be a waste of time since by the time I got it off the internet, I figured out how to get it off my own PS2 console-duh.

And how do i get it off my ps2 console ? I mean, I purchased my own ps2, so that ´d be legal right?

Nevermind found it. I have it legally though as I own a ps2 console. The emulator crashes when trying to load a game dvd...

i have 3 PS2's (mine, my older bro's, and my young sister), and I have successfully dumped the BIOS from each of them.

I use PCSX2 fine, and played FFX at full speed perfectly. Its still a little buggy but very playable, and is still being updated to have a better compatibility with other games. I want to play MGS series on it perfectly, until then I will always check on the progress of this awesome emulator.

Have you tried FFXII? I've read that its barely playable (probably not at all) but I like to be an optimist.

Gophn can you PM me and explain how you got FFX working I really want to play that game.

I got the bios (i think) but my FF7 disc doesn't load for some reason and i get an error, the ps2 browser loads fine though.

Yeah... FF7 can be easly played with a PSOne emulator though...

PCSX2 crashes on me when trying to play FMVs or videos or cut scenes or whatever you call them. I think it's because I'm trying to run the game from the CDVD drive.

Hi Guys, I got interested in this thread but I'm ignorant in what you are talking about. What is the Bios issue? Why do you need it to emulate PS2? And, how do you install the Bios in your PC? do you have to flash your own Bios, or its just a software emulation? Also, is there a specific Bios for each PC model?
Please explain, this is very interesting.
    Thanks.

The console bios is just a 500kb file nothing much like a computer bios. You get those from the actual console or by googling it :p you just have to let the emulator know where that bios file is and thats it.

    Minimal Specs:
AMD XP/64 or Intel Pentium 4 (VM Built will not work with non SSE2 CPU's)
    512MB of RAM
Pixel Shader 1.4 supporting card (GSdx Graphics Plugin Only)

Recommended Specs: (For reasonable performance in many games, but not all)
AMD64 X2 or Intel Conroe E6600+ (Multi Threading is supported in PCSX2)
512-1024MB of RAM (more RAM allows for VM mode to be stable)
Pixel Shader 2.0 supporting card (recommended GeForce 6600-8800 or equivilent ATi card)

    Possible Ideal Specs
    :
64bit OS such as Vista or winXP64, to allow for future support of 64bit recompilers.
Future AMD or Intel Quad Core maybe needed, but currently the support of 4 threads is not handled by PCSX2, and the effect of threading out EE / VU is not yet known.
We don't forsee you requiring a GPU more powerfull than the current generation of cards, upto and including the nVidia GeForce 8800.

A more in-depth guide to system specifications can be found here.
