Well I know that there are numerous people on these boards that overclock (CPU, GPU) and of course we hear from them. I am just curious to see how many do and don't overclock from this community as a whole, no reason really.

It is not really practical to overclock on my Macbook Pro. It just doesn't really need to deal with the extra heat and I don't need 10-20% extra performance in ANY games.

There is really not much I am playing right now that doesn't run above 30 FPS except Crysis, which I decided I will wait to play on my next desktop (in a couple of years).

Plus, unless you can get a good BIOS level overclock going along with a decent cooling solution, it really feels like a hassel (I've never gotten an OC to load properly on startup).

My humble opinion on overclocking is that it's not worth it in the long-run. I stopped chasing after fps' after i turned 16 :) but hey, if you feel the need, then why not.

    Not anymore.

When i got my notebook, i tried how far i could push the hd2600. But after i found out, i did not feel the need to do that anymore.

Since i´m not too much of a gamer ( ok i played crysis recently), i have not oced my card after my initial tests some months ago.
And i definetly don´t want to fry my hp8510p, since i´m very happy with it as it is now - i would not want to send it in and get a replacement because i fryed it. ;)

Yes, but only with certain computers playing certain games.

Also, how does a factory overclocked desktop card factor in?

I only have my desktop overclocked don't see much point in overclocking a laptop. Your not going to be able to play games Very High on most laptops anyways.

I overclock on my desktops, but not on my laptops, as that's a casual gaming machine and no amount of over clocking is going to bring it within sight of the power of my desktop.

I would probably overclock my laptop if I didn't have a good desktop and relied on it for performance.

Even though when overclocking I can go up to 20% in some games I have found that I feel... nothing. Really, even that the numbers (fps) reflect such increase I cannot distinguish the difference in the fluence of the game. So I really don't use it... or at least have not found any game where I can see a real gaming difference.

    For desktops, yes. I currently have a Q6600 2.4GHz oc'd to 3.02GHz on air.

For laptops, no. Due to their expense and difficulty in replacing parts I prefer to have notebooks live a long and healthy life.

Of course. Overclocking is my specialty and one of the things I love with computers. It's challenging, making the overall experience a goal to achieve.

Yes I overclock my CPU and let it be that way permanently since there was really no difference in CPU temp(46 C right now) when it was at 1.9 Ghz.(PERMANENTLY Overclocked to 2.25 Ghz)

CAn't really overclock the GPU since there are no Drivers that can really overclock a 8400m G.(But I still overclock the Shader clock since it still give about 2-3 FPS increase.

I overclock my laptop's graphics card 15% on the core and 18% on the memory and it gives me a noticeable performance improvement in some games. I have been overclocking it for over two a half years and haven't had any issues.

I'm new to this and I have a toshiba x205 sli1, which is an excellent gaming notebook, I found this site and read about overclocking which I experimented with back in January, when I had this computer for about a month, it increased performance in my games, but made me nervous cause I kept reading it could destroy your system. I recently upgraded my drivers on my graphics card which boosted my frames per second significantly over the stock drivers, so until I have more assurance overclocking can be safe if kept to a certain temp, I'll do so and make it default. I'm just worried my system won't last for more than 2 years with overclocking, although I really want to squeeze every once of potential this awesome gaming notebook can give.

As long as you keep your temps in check your fine, though for laptops I dont advise overclocking, desktops on the otherhand are mandatory OC for me.

I try to keep my notebook as cool as possible so overclocking is a no

Though im tempted too, even though i probably wont benefit that much.

how much extra heat does OC'ing give you anyway? 5-10c?

Back when I had my notebook, I would slightly overclock to get a bit better performance in CoD4.

Depends on the particular laptop. For example, in my M1530, I run a 15% overclock (core/mem) while playing games and the temperature did not change at all from stock settings (76C max).

I do all of my gaming on laptops, so the OC is mandatory.

Max temp still never exceeds 70 degrees.

Don`t feel the need for it, although my system has A LOT of room for OCing.
