Please help me I'm desperate!! :(

I recently bought the Dell D830 Latitude every thing seems to work great except?
when i play Guild Wars. After a while the screen starts to more or less distorts, Grey lines appearing over the screen and some features are bright yellow like some of the enemies npc's and after a while th pc just freeze.

I updated the drivers to 156.55 but it still didn't help :(

One of my friends has the dell 820 with same Graphics Card no problem!!
I already exchanged for a new laptop 830 but still the same problem

    PLS HELP

This is very similar to problems I and many others were having with our T61s, with the very similar NVS 140M. There are a few questions to be asked here:

    1. How much RAM do you have, and in what configuration?
    2. Do you have TurboMemory? What driver version? I'm not sure if it's an option on the D830, so If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you probably don't.
    3. Have you tried the 167+ sets of drivers? Go to laptopvideo2go.com and follow instructions there to get them.
    4. Do you have the latest BIOS revision?
    5. Are you sure your friend has the same card? The NVS 135M is not available on the D820, to my knowledge; he most likely has the 120M, which is based on a totally different architecture.

    Hello,

This is Richard from Dell's Online Community Outreach group. From the picture you provided it looks like you have artifacts showing up. This usually happens if you have the setting set in game for high quality. Best performance would be the best setting for your system.

Do you know the exact settings of your friend’s computer? You may want to put them side to side and compare the hardware and the software setting to determine why you are having issues and he is not.

    OK its happening again!

I narrow it down to possibly 2 factors

On Friday i formatted the notebook installing just the necessary software.
I played guild wars the whole Saturday with no problems from 13:00 - 02:00 as well as Sunday.

On Monday back to work i had to install my HSDPA USB modem, as well as PC cillin 2007. Windows gave me allot of problems like:svchost.exe - application error

The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occured in the application at location 0x5b86a3c0

    and:

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

So i read some forums and realise d the problems is some necessary windows updates.

And the the problem started again!

1 It can be some problems with the updates

    Hello,

I wanted to ask about how you processed the reinstall. The following process is what steps to perform and in the correct order.

    1. Delete the partition the old Windows was installed on
    2. Create a new partition
    3. Format the drive (don't select the quick option)
    4. System automatically load files and process install
    5. When Windows install is complete, first install the Notebook system software
    6. Next install the Chipset drivers
    7. Complete driver install with video, NIC, audio, wireless, touchpad, etc
    8. When drivers are complete process the Windows update (express should work fine and it is faster)
    9. Now go ahead and install any 3rd party software.

Are the above steps what you did?

    Hi Richard,

Thanx for replying i have registered on over 5 forums including dell's support forum and you are the only one who's replying thanx again

Yes, i normally follow the steps(i found the steps on another forum as well) exceppt i didnt install any windows updates because i was beginning to suspect that it can be the problem.

I formatted the pc again yesterday too try something else:

    1. I used another copy of windows not the one supplied by dell
    2. Upgraded the ram to 2gig

This morning i had a svchost.exe error again :D :( so yeah i'm not taking it too good. LOL

    Hello,

I regret to read that the problem keeps coming back.

Please tell me at what point the svchost.exe error occurs. Is it right after a certian driver is installed, or a third party software? Also, you are using Vista, correct?

Good to see that Dell has specialists such as Dell C.A. helping out even when not directly consulted. I'm pretty impressed with the service. My brother owns a Dell notebook and he's pretty pleased, guess I'll be going Dell as well. :)
