I have a PS3 and the low end model of the current Macbook Pro line. In case you don't know it has an Intel T7500 processor and a nvidia 8600M GT with 128MB of gddr3 and it also has 2 GB of ram and a 160 GB 7200 rpm hdd. Will my laptop or my PS3 run Oblivion GOTY better?

Many people say 128MB GDDR3 of the 8600m GT is faster than 256MB DDR2 of the same card. I have the Vostro 1500 (T7250, 2GB RAM, 256MB 8600m GT DDR2, Vista) and I can run Oblivion with high textures, long buildings, med grass and low shadows (with HDR). Also, consider that on the PC you can tweak the game to achieve better results.

I would say if you plan on playing while you're traveling or moving around, go for the PC version since you can conveniently play it on your laptop wherever you go. Personally, I think Oblivion is a game that is nice to play sitting on a couch ...(just an opinion though) it's got over 100 hours of gameplay so sitting in a computer chair for hours can get tiring.

ANy other game i'd say go for PC version.

As far as graphically, I don't think one is leaps and bounds better than the other.

PS3 will 'run' Oblivion better w/ better graphics. besides why would you want to play it on 15" screen when you can play it on TV.

256MB of DDR2 will be faster in a higher res of 1024x768. 128mb will just be so much overloaded it won't be able to make it. Will be stuck with low-med textures

No, you don't have any updates. Only the XBox 360 through their Live (whatever is the name) has access to the patches and online downloads.

Its nice to play it in a couch... but you are not going to play the 100 in one shot?? Right??

And yes, after a few hours in a chair can be uncomfortable... but there are nice fluffy chairs nowadays (of course a little expensive, but not like a coach).

For Oblivion, only ONE platform will do, and that is the PC! Or your laptop. The available mods for the PC version will make you see just how awesome the game can be. 'Vanilla' Oblivion (= Oblivion without mods) just pales in comparison. A night and day difference.

PC. I love elder's scroll series and Oblivion is obviously the best. I don't know about Oblivion in PS 3 but I think Oblivion in PC is better.

LOL, you really are deluded to think that a PC with a 128MB 8600 in it is even close to what the PS3 can pull off. Have you seen the PS3 version of Oblivion? Looks better than default XBox360 and PC versions, and is much more optimized so it runs smoother.

PS3 is clearly the superior platform for this game, unless you have a very high-end rig, and the original poster certainly doesn't.

Please refrain from making such statements without proof.

Now if of system requierements we are talking about, anyone can look at the system requierements, like in this link: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/, look for Oblivion, and look that recommended video card is 128MB RAM and both the processor and RAM are enough for what vipergts2207 has.
Also you can read the review of the game for PS3 (like on gamespot or anywhere else) and you can find that the game is basically the same as the PC game.

Therefore you commentary has no basis at all.

Finally, for PC you have the Oblivion mods (optional and free) that makes it look better.

Are you high or just starting flame wars?

PS3 sux majorly and probably wont be produced much longer b/c wii and 360 sales are RAPING it into OBLIVION...

Plus X360 oblivion has the downloadable official mods and PC oblivion has those PLUS player mods...

I tried playing this game but its just too time involving. If you have a 40 hour a week job then I dont think this game it worth it as you wont have enough time to play it.

And you are not trying to start a flame war?

As usual, it really comes down to what kind of computer you are running as to what will run the game better. Without knowing that piece of information, a comparison is pretty useless IMHO.

haha that was the stupidest thing you could have said... tech guys going to rip you to pieces now.

it does not suck majorly, it inlcudesa blu ray player and is alot cheaper now, $50 more than the lowest 360 which btw does not have a hard drive or any sort of high def support, you know unless you want to spend 200 more on an HD DVD drive...o wait its more expensive now.

i also hope you liked paying extra for those official mods, cuzz i cant think of an any more large waste of money.

and im not sure why you even brought 360 into this conversation the title clearly states PC OR PS3.

With your setup I'd say PS3, since you only have a 128mb card.

Wow talk about being hypocritical. Please don't post nonsense like this in my thread that I asked about my PS3 or laptop in. I asked whether my computer configuration or my PS3 would run oblivion better, so go away with your fanboy crap. The fact that you said the PS3 won't be produced much longer shows that you're an idiot and have no idea what you're talking about. I'll be sure to not take your advice.

The proof is in the pudding, and any game review which compares the various versions will show as much.

Video proof, PS3 side-by-side w/360. The PC version is identical to the 360 version, but allows one to scale detail settings according to their performance. The *default* settings for PS3 are the best of any platform.

WTF do system requirements have to do with anything? System requirements mean nothing. They certainly don't tell you what it takes to max a game out.

    Check the link I provided.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/player/18049&type=wmv.html?id=18049&type=wmv

Given the fact that you didn't even know that Oblivion can run with HDR & AA (as pointed out to you in the PS3 vs. PC thread), I'd say you're the one whose commentary is without basis.

No argument there. Still doesn't make it the better default choice though. It still takes a hell of a PC to max out Oblivion and make it obviously graphically superior to the PS3 version.

PC wins... no matter how "close" the ps3 can try to get, it does not have the ability to add the number or level of mods the PC version will.

On the PC your gaming will evolve... on the PS3 it will stagnate.

The PS3 is for parties (so you don't lose as much when someone spills something on it) and for playing blu-ray.

Think of the PS3 like a winter beater-with-a-heater.

Vanilla PC Oblivion still looks better than PS3. You have far more options to play around with which you can´t with the PS3 so it does not look better than PC at all. With mods PC Oblivion are leagues ahead of the PS3.

Thank you for the reference with the PS3 vs 360 comparison. I think this thread is about the PC and PS3... anyways..... Let's get some points clear and this will finish my contribution to this thread:
    1) You say the 360 version is the same as PC: Well, I think you are missing a few points: like on PC you can customize the level of quality... and the 360 has only one set of quality. Is that set the maximum the PC game can offer?? No, it has reduced everything. And you better check that.
    2) From your video, which seems to be some kind of reference: I can get the same quality and smoothness of the game on my laptop (check my first post on this thread).

    @vipergts2207:
    1) Judge by yourself. My settings can do the same (or better) as the video shown with the PS3 quality.
    2) Your video card settings according to the experts of this forum (look for their threads showing benchmark comparisons, not only thoughts) should be on par as mine since yours is GDDR3and mine DDR2.
    3) You have the mods (free) on PC and tweaks (look at www.tweakguides.com for reference) to improve the performance on the game.
    4) Read the review of Oblivion on PS3, even there with the so called power of the PS3 still has sttutering problems. And don't get me wrong: that the PS3 has power doesn't mean that the producers of the games are using all its power, that is not a real statement to judge on which platform the game looks and plays better.

Edit: Just found that ATI cards can run both HDR and AA. Sorry for my eagerness in writing. Even it can be done on the nVidia's cards (just chekced it): the way is to enable HDR on the game and AA in the control panel.

I got bought my brother Oblivion (Game of the Year Edition) for the PS3... since he just got the system.
    - the Game of the Year Edition has the latest updates
    - and has the Knight of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions included.

It looks and run pretty well on a 1080p LCD.... but it still does not look as good as my Oblivion on my notebook with my 7800GTX @ 1920x1200. :D

Yeah but Gophn remember Oblivion is upscaled to 1080p from 720p, it does not run in native 1080p that would kill the PS3.
