I hadn't heard about this game prior to seeing the article on Elite Bastards, and personally even after reading the article I'm not sure I'll buy the game. However, this does end up being one of the best-looking DX10 benchmarks I've seen, and Elite Bastards seems to agree. I'm downloading now.

    The EB Article:

Post your results on Low, Med, and/or High and your rig specs- I'm interested in seeing how our relative laptop chips compare. In the EB article it's noted that 256 framebuffer may be too small, so 8600M GT GDDR3 users beware that this may be the source if your frame rate is low.

I'll post my results ASAP, might happen tonight, might not.

Note: The article does not make it clear if there is a built-in benchmark. If not, I'll be using FRAPS for min/max/avg frames.

Fair enough :p... I would have had it completed already, but I thought the Aegia PhysX was just a frilly bloatware-ish add-on. I didn't realize it was necessary, so I deleted the installer. Silly me.

Yeah I already have that installed, half life needed that to be installed to play. Almost done a few more min.

    Alright installing.

    That was weird. 8600 512 , 1280 x 1024 high I got 11 avg 16 high and 8 low.

The benchmark video was long and you couldn't quit after a certain amount of time so I won't run more tests. It didn't even cause my fans to turn on. Whatever game I play my fan goes on but the fans stayed normal like they were idle. Its like it wasn't using my gpu to its max. The game doesn't look great at all, the water is great and some of the ships but overall it looks bland.

Yeah, I'm of the same opinion. The models are weak but the water effects are supposed to be spectacular, and what I've seen of the benchmark they seem better at least than Bioshock, which had some uniquely disappointing water in the opening scenes.

Gonna get back to you guys tomorrow on this issue. Just found out about a huge paper I have due tomorrow, so I'll probably be busy for the remainder of the night.

Wow this just reinforces my belief that the 8600 isn´t really a capable card, especially not to play DX10 games.

I think everyone suspected that....the desktop 8600GT clearly struggled.

Not really my 8600 ddr2 runs bioshock fine at 1280 x 1024. That game is alot more demanding than this. Like I said this benchmark was weird, it didn't even maximize my gpu use or my fans would have turned on. The 8600 can play any game at high settings just need to tweak the res.
