    I'll just say if you sat down and spent some time looking at TSMC's past failures, and how they just seem to find some way to screw up every node since 40nm, and how their roadmaps keep getting changed year after year, you'll have much less faith in TSMC than you do currently.

    For the record I don't have any exclusive sources, and I still believe Ethrem when he says TSMC screwed up again, because sadly that's they do and what they're best at.

    I don't have any faith in TSMC. I was asking Ethrem to share his source because he's mentioned it a dozen times now and always says he can't share a source.

    You are all taking things out of context. It wasn't meant to be offensive or anything...

    My apologies to anyone who was offended, but it was meant to be frank humor.

    I hear ya. Very little anyone knows for sure, but someone constantly stating unsourced rumors just gets old quick. I don't doubt that he has some evidence or third hand information but without some sort of backup it's hard to take seriously. Honestly stating what he knows wouldn't do anything against him because it sounds like third hand and he's not bound by any NDA or an employee of the company.

    Considering its TSMC we are talking about, I would assume they screwed up... somehow and instead ask for proves they DIDNT screw up.
    The second possibility is far less imo.

    Pretty much. When it comes to TSMC, I just assume they already screwed up (pre-screwed up? :p) until I see reliable evidence to the contrary.

    There's also loads of options coming soon with external graphic amplifiers, looks like it's becoming more & more viable as time goes on - provides an element of future proofing too, through ability to upgrade with later desktop GPUs for 'cheap'. This for instance: http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-xconnect-external-gpu-technology-for-radeon-graphics.html

    Maybe ethrem is a trader that spread rumor in order to make the TSMC stock price fall.
    Then, he can buy some stock at a very low price, with his millions dollars he already have, and when nvidia will announce pascal coming without any problem, make a great capital gain ...
    With this money, he can destabilize the international financial system, this will start the third world war and he will become the master of the world (or the supreme guide) by his army victory .... but that is another story.

    We just have to pe patient, wait and see

    So how will the 1080 compare to 980Ti?

    I don't know, but I would guesstimate the following:

    I think from my memory that 980ti is about 30% faster than 980, therefore factor = 1.3
    1080 likely to be about 75% faster than 980, therefore factor = 1.75

    1.75/1.3 = 1.35, therefore GTX 1080 might be about 35% faster than 980ti, that would be my guess.

    30% - 40% is a fair estimate, assuming the 1080 is as powerful as we expect.

    It could be more or less powerful. We won't know for sure until leaks hit.

    Definitely, that's why I guesstimated 75% performance improvement from 980 to 1080, when in reality I think the architecture could do 100% improvement - afterall NVidia want that milk for the next little generation (rebrand) after the 1080 (the 1180)!

    Agreed. It will also be interesting to see how driver support changes (if at all) with the launch of Pascal. If it magically becomes much better with Pascal products, we can pretty much conclude NVIDIA is intentionally screwing over anyone who does not upgrade on an annual basis.

    In my humble opinion, on laptop, the x60M nvidia are too weak in term of performance, especially for guy like you that play hungry ressources graphic games like witcher 3. If you can make a financial effort, i will advise you to take a notebook with 1070m in it ... (but, first, we have to wait to know the real gain of the new pascal architecture) ...

    All of the cards should see some improvement, be it minor or not. Even the 1030M, 1040M, etc. are getting GDDR5X, if I recall correctly. But the 1060M should have noticeable gains: +30% is what I'd expect for it. :) This is approximately +10 FPS (depending on the game).

    There don't seem to be any 100% re-brands this time. But I'm sure 2017 and 2018 are re-brand years. :D

    Sounds fine to me. You don't say, "one thousand and eighty." :D It's not money.

    "Seven eighty" -> 780
    "Eight eighty" -> 880
    "Nine eighty" -> 980
    "Ten eighty" -> 1080
    "Eleven eighty" -> 1180

    EDIT: Oh, you're saying it sounds like 1080p... Funny. :p

    That doesn't look bad actually! X80, X80ti, X80m, etc, etc. Although the GTX prefix could look weird: GTX X80ti, but maybe they could join it up to avoid repetition but still keep the meaning: GTX80ti (no spaces)...... Hmmm, probably need some spaces, that's starting to look like word salad! GTR X80ti............ 0-60 in 5 seconds - haha, you saw it here first!

    Why not GTX 200, GTX 400, GTX 650, GTX 500, GTX 1000? You know, how much we pay for these things....
    Knowing nvidia, for next generation, they just put a 1 in front of everything.

    And add a GTX 1500M, cause you know, we will get a rebrand of a GTX 500 but for some reason, the price triples.
