I would guess the first laptops are coming in a month or two with the bulk in July and August. There is no point to announcing the architecture now if they're not going to have anything for the back-to-school season.
-
They haven't announced anything regarding the mobile sector and there haven't been any leaks, that should tell you something because certain laptop vendors who shall not be named ALWAYS leak the new cards. I'd expect GP106 before GP104 but don't be surprised if mobile Pascal has a 4Q launch. New node means growing pains. That's the way it always is. AMD has the advantage here thanks to Samsung pushing 14nm out to consumers for awhile now (their Exynos 7 Octa chips) which is why I'm predicting Polaris before Pascal in laptops.Mr Najsman and tgipier like this.

I dont get why there seems to be so much negativity about the alleged power of 1080m, if its going to be near 980m sli power that sounds great as sli support is pretty thin these days, no sli on unreal 4 or unity for example. If I get get 1 decent laptop gpu I will just go with that rather than spending a grand on an sli upgrade.

Good! I get to keep this laptop then. 2.5 more hours to find out for surehmscott likes this. -

I predict something crazy: a simultaneous desktop AND mobile launch. 980M was announced merely a month after 980 after all. I think it could happen.

Maxwell was not only an interim but it was a desperation move to launch 980M so quickly. 980Ms can still play all major games quite well and don't burn to a crisp like the 880M did in the process. Generally speaking, new mobile cards are paired with new CPUs to maximize sales of both. I don't see nVidia breaking that tradition with Kaby Lake marked for 2H.Georgel and HaloGod2012 like this.

All I can say is from my limited contacts in the Nvidia mobile world, I usually hear word at least a couple months in advance that something is in the pipe. Right now it's crickets. Maybe I'm being kept blind and deaf this time around...

JESUS, FASTER THAN 980 SLI?!!!!!!!!!!!!

From a quick look at a benchmark 980 SLI is 30% faster than 980 Ti? Jesus. RIP 980 Ti.
I think I will still wait for the big die though.moviemarketing, TomJGX and tgipier like this. -
2.1Ghz on air?!?!
Ugh RIP wallet. Why do I have to be so addicted. -
LOL me too.
Looks like I will be getting two...
and selling them before GP100. -

But no gtx 1070. Which means the mobile versions are probably way off. I'm guessing end of year now

Tom is fired..

why doesn't he get to the point already...

So in vr applications it's going to be 2x more powerful than a titan?

I'm watching the stream. 1070 is apparently more powerful than the titan x.

omg, 1070 faster than titan x and only 379. This is the most insane leap in computing history

GGWP Pascal Most Insane pricing and 2x-3x perf and power efficient.
RIP Maxwell.
I think the aggressive pricing is because of the Polaris !moviemarketing likes this. -
RIP 980 Ti, I should have sold you last month. Ugh..

HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
even though there is no mobile pascal, I'm seriously thinking about returning my 980m sli notebook and just building a 1080 desktop for cheaper and with way more performance
-
I'm starting to steer towards a desktop as well. Though I'll wait. I want to see how far they are going to close the performance gap or if it's going to widen.

From 1.7 to 2.1GHz Overclockability with low temps is INSANE !!

AMD had better bring their A game or its over for them me thinks.

Lol. looks like 2x the performance of a GTX970 in the chart. :/ I think the 2x titan perf might have been referring to VR performance.
Still, might pick one of these up if available soon but probably going to be a while for shops to dump GTX 9xx first before selling them.

Daily reminder that the 1080 is a midrange card and If you think that it is impressive, wait for the 1080 TI

They will likely announce mobile at Computex. They have clearly returned to the 700 series (traditional) launch schedule.
Mobile followed 700 series desktop by a week. They are using GDDR5X, so there's no delay to discuss. -
What's that Founders Edition for a $100 more ?
-
Good time to buy cheap 980 TI.
-
I have the same question. He said it had extreme overclockability. Does that mean it's been binned higher or has better components to make it able to be pushed further?
-
I guess he said that in general about the GTX 1080 ?

Definitely RMAing my sager for a refund tomorrow morning. Pascal is way bigger than I thought. I am either going to do a 1080 desktop build or wait 1-2 months for some mobile love. a 1070 sli build is probably the most insane value ever brought to man kind
moviemarketing, hmscott, oveco and 2 others like this. -
It is an amazing price : performance ratio. I'm surprised and very pleased.
I'm fairly certain mobile Pascal will also be quite a surprise, as I had hoped from the beginning. -
haha, until you find out its 7+1GB of VRAM. Debating on 1080 SLI since intel is charging a whopping 1600USD for 6950x.
-
Wise choice.
-
Clockspeed doesn't surprise me. Finfets can hit ridiculous clocks. AMD is still going to clean house in DX12 using async though. Pascal was too far along in development to fully address that particular issue. I wonder what their "relative gaming performance" is based on. I'm guessing heavily optimized nVidia Gameworks titles. Pricing doesn't surprise me, we all knew nVidia would be aggressive since AMD is running on a more mature node and will be actually quite competitive if they want to be. Once AMD shows their hand, I'm going to decide what to replace my 780 Ti with. Gives me a few months to pay off the credit card before charging it up again. Lol

Yeah no news about that DX12 Hardware capability like ACEs from GCN or anything alternative which is not software....
I guess 80% of the people don't know that Maxwell doesn't have the real DX12 HW capability like AMD's, the first time they had an advantage because of the unused Async compute, though the DX12 is still not matured and sucks against DX11.
Also AMD DX12 tech can't pull off over the Nvidia's DX11 Maxwell tech...long way to go for the DX12 and that Winblows, nothing interesting yet for Vulkan also.Last edited: May 6, 2016 -
I honestly don't think we'll see full DX12 support until 2017. At least games won't be entirely optimized for it until then.
Maybe AMD will surprise us. Good year so far either way!
