Judging from MS-1785 and "SLI Capable", it's probably the new titan, and it is probably MXM.
-
Ah, that looks juicy. Gotta get the bank ready.
-
Give us MOAR info))) Is i understand, it's an MSI laptop?
-
Relax, I just got it
Right now I´m downloading games, everything is 40-55 GBs nowadays so it´ll take some time even with my decent connection.
Unknown if it´s MXM, I´ll crack it open and take some pictures. -
PRETTY PLEASE!!!!!!!

100% sure it's not.
Board ID is MS-1785

So it's GT72S) maybe GT73 Titan? Can you share display refresh rate, pls?
This part means it's a custom board, like MSI GT72S GTX 980, looks like it - http://prntscr.com/bhmk4h
Do you have unlocked clock sliders in Nvidia Inspector or MSI Afterburner?
Thanks -
Will it be possible to get a close up of the card if and when you do it ?hmscott likes this.
-
So GTX 1080m is a slightly slower GTX 1070.
-
I like the price) Might be close to 2100-2300USD and that means it's a GTX 1080M not Full chip like GT72S QF with 3k+ USD price tag.
jaybee83 likes this. -
Seems like it's a different cut of GP104?
GTX 1070 has 1,920 shader cores while GTX 1080M seems to have 2,048 shader cores (but that may be just not updated HWInfo / GPU-Z, who knows?
).
-
It's not being correctly read either, because in GPU z it says 170TMUs while on HWinfo says 128 TMUs.
It's definitely something else... Though my comment was regarding its performance, which was slightly below a GTX 1070. -
It´s 1080p 60 Hz.
Win10 SmartScreen filter is blocking the Nvidia Inspector download from several sites. Any ideas how to get around it? First time on Win10 for me.
Sure thing, I´ll get the board and chip on photo.
Judging from Firestrike alone it seems so. Afaik 1070 gets 18K and 980Ti gets 16,8K, which this GPU also got.Last edited: Jun 20, 2016hmscott, jaybee83, Red Line and 1 other person like this. -
For the record they´ve asked me not to tell which brand or to confirm any educated guesses made.
Other than that I´m free to bench, clock and share anything we´d like to see.hmscott, Papusan, Ionising_Radiation and 4 others like this. -
Well we already figured out most of it, no confirmation needed
hmscott, jaybee83 and Mr Najsman like this. -
Good catch.
AFAIK these specs are not coming from any GPU introspection API instead this is a table of info matched to GPU ids.
So developers of those hardware info programs have to manually enter them (which presumes they must get info from somewhere else, which may have not yet happened).
Only performance and clocks should be real.
Bandwidth in theory could be measured too. This one is at 256 GB/s, which would concur with GTX 1070. -
Got Nvidia Inspector downloaded with Chrome instead. Core and memory sliders are enabled (+1200/+1000). Power target, temp target and voltage are greyed. Did a quick test with +100/+100 and it stuck.

Thats double stock 970m
good time to upgrade

Anyone know if Pascal causes problems with the overlay from RTSS and HWInfo? I have the same settings as on my ZM and get no overlay.
Edit: I mean if desktop users have reported anything. Can´t find any info about it and I really miss staring at those numbers..Last edited: Jun 17, 2016hmscott likes this. -
Try FRAPS to troubleshoot. If there's no overlay, nVidia changed something in the driver that broke it. RTSS uses DirectX hooks so it shouldn't be a problem. If FRAPS works, there's an option that changes the way that RTSS hooks in to the game by adjusting the detection. This will crash some games or trigger hack protection if it's too high but it might get your OSD back in others.Mr Najsman likes this.

So... what you're saying is... without destroying the machine or confirming what brand it is, you can do anything?

The overlay works in Heaven, but not in Firestrike nor Shadow of Mordor.
I knew I was on thin ice wording it like that... -
Try Playclaw 5's overlay, see if it works. You'll have to set it up, though.

Could you also run Unigine Heaven Extreme preset, only choose FullHD and record temps in the end. Try core clock overclock first, if it's stuck at even 50Mhz, leave it alone and continue with memory overclock instead.
Also, 3dmark firestrike is a good example of memory overclock. If you see the GPU-score goes down or don't increase at all, back up memory clock a little lower.
If you have PSU meter, try to check the system wattage during gaming) Tnxhmscott likes this. -
Good news, the MXM3.0b card in the pictures is slightly different than the full GTX 980 (Notebook)
The right side of the card (1080M) is straight up from the edge of the MXM connector until it reaches ~.75" from the top where it spurs out for the "absent" external power connector. This must be 100W TDP.
It also might mean that upgrades may be possible since the new board may have clearance on the right side. The left side however seems to stick out further left of the MXM slot, just like the GTX 980 (notebook).
My GTX 980 (Notebook) has nothing connected to that power connector molex.

am i the only one annoyed by msi doing a non-standard mxm board for WHATever reason?
aside from that, nice info so far @mr nasjman
Sent from my Huawei Mate 8 NXT-AL10Mr Najsman, Papusan, TBoneSan and 4 others like this. -
This has started in a not calm and orderly fashion, which I don´t personally like. I´m sorry if I´m throwing you tidbits, I´m trying to get prepared for testing and giving you something at the same time.
With that said, Heaven benchmark could do +200 MHz on core but crashed on +300 MHz and on +250/+500 (+500 in N Inspector being +250 in GPU-Z).
In this latest HWInfo GPU Clock has been replaced by GPU Power. Don´t know where the voltage is but in Heaven benchmark HWInfo reported 105-120W with a spike in the overlay at 134W. Max Power in Hwinfo after testing was 122W. -
Uninstall RTSS.
HWInfo use fox's setup: http://imgur.com/a/UYC3s/embed
Use newest hwinfo (non beta) and rtss from guru3
You need to manually config the display option in hwinfo (gear icon) -> OSD (RTSS)Mr Najsman likes this. -
Uninstall RTSS but install again?
That´s alot of tweaking for a laptop I´ll only have for a limited time. And my easy/quick setup with RTSS and HWInfo has worked on every other PC so far.
I´m sure Fox´s settings works, but I´m not going down that road just yet. -
reinstall not needed, just to make sure
-
Tbh, It's super easy once you get hold of it. I was worried that HWInfo and RTSS not supporting, that'd be a disaster.
-
hummmmm.....
Just use msi afterburner 4.3 beta 4 for gtx 1080/1070. This will work for osd. Overclocking of voltage/power/temp if they are not locked in vbios.

I had one in my first Clevo, that thing makes very annoying ticking sounds ! Second Clevo with WD Black, same issue ! Never again.
-
If only I could use it, still no sign of it..
Shadow of Mordor and GTA V installed, disc space gone. -
No sign of what exactly?
If you mean the right after burner then this is the right one.

Maybe I missunderstood, in my internal screens there´s a 1 TB WD. But in Windows I can only access the 256 GB Samsung SSD and the DVD, the HDD is just gone. Nothing in the control panel, only the SSD.
I´d like to access it, as over 9000 GBs of games wont fit on that tiny NVMe. -
My first WD Black did that, got a replacement and its quite, but now my Seagate 2TB does that.
-
Goto disc management, its probably not assigned/formatted.
-
There is your answer.....The way it's setup it can only see the nvme drive.....
This may need a bios setting change or a windows setting change or both....hmscott likes this. -
It´s nighttime here and I´m officially calling it off for now. A few things:
- With max fans the stock 6820HK wrecks XTU and Firestrike, never exceeding 59C. Fn+1 on my ZM is louder.
- OC on stock vBios is possible, so far managed +300Mhz on core in Heaven but..
- ..even on stock clocks it flails between base and boost. GPU-Z reports PerfCap Util and Thermal, even though the GPU never exceeds 68C. Gonna need some help with this one.
