I recently just received my new pavilion laptop from HP, a pavilion dv900t with the following stats:

    intel core 2 duo t5200 (1.60ghz)
    256mb geforce go 7600 (8.6.0.2)
    2048mb ddr2 memory

first, i have to say, the machine is sweet. pure beauty.

but what im getting at is when looking through these forums, a lot of people say the 7600 should be able to play games like fear, prey, farcry, maybe even bf2 on high settings. Ive downloaded the demos of these games just to mess around, and I can't say im getting these results. although i run them all at the highest resolution, i usually have to keep all the settings to around medium, including keeping some features off, even AA. Any suggestions or reasons why?

Do you have all the latest drivers?
Any bloatware or other software running in the background hogging resources?

I have the same specs as you only my videocard is the 128mb edition and not 128 bit. Your system should pump out amazing settings in games because if mine can do it so can yours!

Well i just updated the drivers to the latest from laptopvideo2go and i just ran bf2 on high res with max settings, runs smooth. Every once in a while it seems to lag for 5 seconds, like its loading something, but then back to perfection. thanks for the advice

what res are you playing at? that card isn't as capable of high res as a higher end card, you should be able to max out most games at a lower res.

I can play FEAR at 1280x800 (or slightly faster at 1024x768) at around medium settings. All other tests on my system come out normal or slightly faster, so I'd guess that's roughly what it should be.

Higher resolutions in the latest games are going to be very hard on the video card, so keep it to 1280x800 or so. Older games should run fine maxed out at maximum settings/resolution.

Congratulations on the new laptop; that is a beautiful machine in person.

/agree with what everyone above has said. I have a dv8000t w/ very similar specs to your machine (your processor is faster) and I can run most anything at high/medium-high settings.. but not at 1440x900.

You should check in the Nvidia Powermizer settings that it is at Max Performance as well.

Hallo guys, I just got the DV9000T today, I'm not quite sure too much on thespecs because it was a gift, I know theres a 1024mb ram in it (notsure what kind but it would be nice to know what kind would be best for it if i were to upgrade) Not sure bout the cpu, it says 2.0 ghz and the sticker says centrilo duo. One of the papers it came with said that it had 2 HD's on it, ones 64gb and the others like 75gb...I dont understand why there both not the same, besides maybe the backup partition. And the graphics card is the 7600 w/ 512mb....dunno if its dedicated or shared. But my friend has a desktop with the same card, with 512 and his comp plays Company of Heros on max out setting with avg 40 FPS......when i try it i get AVG 14, with AA off and 17 with AA on. I was wondering if him having 2gb of ram and me having one makes that much of a difference. Thanks

Don't worry about it. I have a better cpu then yours and a x1800 overclocked and I sometimes gotta go to a lower resolution.....

Of course, I only have 512 megs ram.

Try going to the Nvidia Display, and checking to see that in the Powermizer setting that it is at Max Performance when plugged in.

Hmm AC outlet was set to max, Battery was on Balanced. I tested FEAR with out it being plugged up before, I'll try it again in a few minutes while its plugged up. But I just tried installing WoW on it....and when i put in the cd...it said That my computer does not meet the minimum system requirments, then below that it says Insufficient cpu speed. Box says min 800mghz....i have a 2.0ghz duo core.....meh?

Don't worry about that. It is reading your CPU wrong anyway, probably because it doesn't recognize it.

Core 2 Duo CPUs normally run at 1GHz to save power, then spool up when needed.

    Download CPU-Z, and run it:
    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
Then go to the memory tab and it will tell you. Post a screenshot here if you can (Alt + Printscreen button, then go into Microsoft Paint, paste (Ctrl + V), then upload here ;)).

The best RAM you can put in there is 200-pin, DDR2-667 SO-DIMM RAM. Check www.newegg.com and www.zipzoomfly.com.

    my 7600 is clocked at 440/366 (stock = 350/350)

    here are my game settings/stats

    CS:source -> all high, 2x AA, 4x AF, 1200x800 => cs stress test avg fps is 83

f.e.a.r. combat -> all max, no AA, 4x AF, 1200x800 => plays very smooth except in outdoor environments and you can notice fps probably drops to between 25-35 fps (i'm sure it could be smoothed out if i ran it at slightly lower resolution like 10xx by 768).

bf2 -> all high, no AA, texture filtering at medium, 10xx by 768 => very smooth as far as i can see

Overclocking your Go7600 won't make a currently unplayable game like Company of Heroes playable. Overclocking provides a marginal boost in most cases, and with a Go7600 256MB, increasing the clocks is not going to give the performance increase you want. Basically, you need to turn the settings down.
Is this your first laptop? Most people who get laptops for the first time think they run hot, but in reality, it's normal.
Just a few tips - make sure all the fans are unblocked and the notebook is on a flat/level surface. You might think about investing in a cooling pad; check our Accessories forum.

You can download Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) to monitor your temperatures:

Ok so HchorionicGT posted above that his is running FEAR on all max with no AA....and the lowestit gets is 25-35 FPS. MY 7600 cant run on max, his is OCed and mine isnt, so are you sure it wont make a difference? and thanks for the link and help so far, at 1.0ghz the hardware thing says the cpu speed is at 33 degrees celcius.

It's hard to compare performance between your laptop and his without proven hard numbers. And, "playable" is a term relative to the person.

Overclocking your GPU will make the game a bit smoother, but it isn't going to double or even increase your framerates by a third. You can go ahead and overclock, but be aware of the risks involved.

That's a very low temperature for your CPU by the way, 33*C.

Yea your right about it idling, it sits and 1ghz until somethings runs and then it jumps up, and at 1ghz it is 33C. And yea i think ill leave it alone idont want to cut my comps life in half. But yea youve all been a really big help. and is there a section for posting bout why my comp wont conect to internet unles its from wireles or ethernet from rouder? cuz directly from dsl modem it dont work.

Yes, you can take a look at our Networking & Wireless forum. Make sure you do a thread search before creating a new thread, you might find your answer in one of them.
